Help for complete novice

Featured Replies

Hi I have bought a second hand cyclamatic the step through bike.

I knew there was a problem with fully automatic

Also the lights do not work on the handle bars.

What do you think this could be. I’m a complete novice.

Would you say the battery or a fault with wiring.

Thank you all in advance for your help for a complete beginner.

You can't determine anything without a meter. The lights on the throttle show the battery voltage. No lights means no battery voltage reaching them, so you have to check, firdt the battery terminals, then the controller, connections, then the throttle connector. It might sound complicated, but it's dead simple if you have a meter.

Thanks for the reply. There is a red light on but the orange and green isn’t working. Fully automatic isn’t working but pedal assist is. Is it a battery meter we need to check that the battery is charging properly . It is 24 v lithium ion battery 24 v 10AH. Thank you
OK, the red light means that the voltage is reaching the throttle, but it's too low. You need the meter to check your battery and charger.

Fantastic thank you for replying so promptly, I am so eager to get out riding. I’ve been poorly and need to build my strength up. I really need full assist for hills at the moment. Where is the controller on my cyclamatic? Do you know? My friend is testing the battery tomorrow for me. Perhaps all I need is a new battery. The seller did remove one front light left just the wires. so do you think that might also be something to do with this or am I being stupid?

Thank you so much for your help and advice. A lot of bicycle repair shops only want to repair what they sell in our area.

The lights wouldn't normally have any effect unless they've done something stupid and shorted something.

Step 1. Remove the battery, fully charge it and measure the voltage on the terminals at the bottom of the battery. It should be 29.4v hot off the charger. Any lower than 29v probably indicates a problem. The further below that, the more serious the problem. Don't worry at this stage: Some serious problems are easy to fix.

Step 2 Put the battery on the bike, switch on and measure the voltage on the two controller connections (thick black and red wires) while it's connected. the controller sits in the compartment under the battery. you take off the side plate (4 screws) and pull it out with all the wires.

Tell us the results of those tests.
