No, not whether to wear them or not . Argos have half price Ski Helmets which some on this Forum prefer to ride with .The XQ Max is on offer at £14.99 instead of £29.99 . This is cheaper than the one I bought at Lidl last December . The Cat. No 901/6844 is in black . Lynda this is your golden opportunity , Yeovil Argos watch out !

They are completely padded inside with a combination of cloth and mesh , whereas my normal cycling helmet has a few strips of foam running from front to back for contact with the top of the head . The ski helmet goes deeper, particularly at the back and a cut-away near the headband knob adjuster has a very generous comfortable padded neck curtain . The integral ear pieces which are detachable provide a nice fixing place for the straps . The chin strap is comfortable and nicely padded under the chin . On the Lidl helmet the slider controls the intake of air to 4 slots on the top front , two slots further back on the top and two at the rear let the air out through mesh panels which form part of the inner lining .
They are a lot warmer and keep out the worst of the traffic noise , the type that can startle you . Conversation with an accompanying rider is more difficult and the vision thing if the sun is low . Apart from that I highly recommend them . Compared to a normal helmet the interior is a work of art and at £15 a bargain .

They're comfortable, warm in the winter, protect more of your head, don't let wasps in to sting you, and stop you from looking like a tw@t. The pieces that keep your ears warm in the winter can be removed for cooler summer riding.

For those not sure of sizes , the Argos one is quoted as Adult size 55-58 mm . My Lidl one is L/XL 58-62 mm as it was the only one left in the store at the time . The Lidl M/L is quoted as 54-58 mm . I have just got my Wife to measure my head and it is 57 mm but what a palaver as she doesn`t do Metric ! Well the L/XL Lidl fits nicely and it looks like the other size would as well . Obviously the range of adjustment of these two sized helmets caters for the 57 mm head !

So popped out to argos to pick one up at lunchtime (only 1 store had 1 in stock, so thought i'd best be quick) was a bit worried about sizing as my strangely shaped bonce means i usually hit xl or xxl to get my head into the helmet, rather than the helmet on my head comedy stylee......but it fits perfectly :) reminds me of a skate helmet i had when i was a kid :)

the only downside thus far is the weight, its comparable in weight to my troy lee full face downhill helmet, though not uncomfortable to wear as weight is distributed well, and i like the neck brace feel at the back, suspect it will stop my head wobbling on way home from the pub

thanks again for the reccomendation!!

+ 1 for that, I just bought one too. Just what I needed as my old one (tesco £10 quid cycling helmet) is on it last legs.

Very comfy, and the extra weight doesn't bother me.

Thanks!

Such a helmet would be perfect for when you launch your canoe on the canal . You would attract admiring glances from the watchers on either bank . Incidently a bit of smart route planning on your part by starting on the English side and going home from the Welsh side .If you had done it the other way around it would have cost you a £6.30 toll .

No flies on me Roger.....and I think it would have cost £11 or 12 in m/home ?

and btw...I dont 'do' canoes only bikes and still without one of your helmets......how much longer can I resist you......;)

Lynda :)
