A tortoise strapped to the head with a bungee cord would probably offer the same level of protection. It would certainly be cheaper!

Reminiscent of the first consumer motorbike helmet in the 1950s, The Corker, it was made out of compressed cork and just as useless as a wooden one would be.

I've often wondered - would a (horse) riding helmet be effective?
The Corker motorcycle helmet was a bright idea - if you fell in the canal you might float the right way up?

LOL......Much as I love wood.....IF I wore a helmet, it certainly wouldnt be a wooden one........even WITH a nice patina

They sure are ugly though. Some of these are really pretty.....but I fully accept I am an absolute sucker for wood. There is a chap in the states who makes really lovely mudgaurds out of various woods as well. The walnut on maple one for me please
