I have not previously worn a cycling helmet, but I always said that I would wear one if I found one that was fit for purpose. So I decided to have a look in Aldi`s. Here in Boston, South Lincs, our Aldi is a small place, and was not hopeful of these helmets being in stock. After all, in the flatlands of the Fens, there is not a lot of call for snowboarding gear. However, they had them in, so I bought one. A test ride showed that hopefully, I can modify it to suit my needs.
I liked the shape, and the quick release chin strap. I liked the adjustable internal headband, a sort of one-size-fits-all feature. The lining is held in with velcro, and can be easily be removed for washing.
The big problem, as far as I was concerned was there is too much ventilation. Maybe I am spoiled, as in winter I wear a Russian style fur hat with ear flaps. There is a sort of switch on top of the helmet, which closes some of the vents, but even with those closed, there is still too much air. I ride every day, 365 days a year, on both an ebike and a pedal cycle. As a temporary fix, I removed the liner, and taped over the vents inside the shell with duct tape. I will test it again tomorrow.
Ski goggles are available to suit the helmet, but they are very dark tinted. I will probably use safety DIY type goggles in the rain, to keep my glasses dry. Incidentally, this helmet works well with spectacles. It has a sort of clip at the back to hold a goggles strap. In very low temperatures, I use a motorcyclist`s neck tube, which covers the face up to the nose, and that works well with this helmet. The helmet is very lightweight, but still thick enough to give protection. All in all, excellent value for money, and recommended. I am willing to answer any questions. Just remember that at Aldi, stuff disappears rapidly.
