Helmet Mirrors Good Or Bad. Better Then Handle Bar Mirrors ?????

I used to use a Reevu helmet. To be honest, I never found it very comfortable as a helmet, but I did like the mirror system. I heard that there was some "legal" reason why they stopped making bike helmets, although they do motorcycle ones. Now I use a helmet that I like, with a stick-on mirror. I do generally need to adjust the mirror when I set off, but then I don't shift it as I ride; a slight head movement "pans" it and lets me scan across what's behind me. It does vibrate and lose effectiveness if my speed gets up, say >20 mph, but that's a rare event for me :) .

Whatever mirror I use, I always look over my shoulder before I manoeuvre. But the mirror saves me a lot of head-turning when it tells me that, no, now is not a safe time. If it looks okay by mirror, that's when I double-check.

My new mirror (cateye bm500g) arrived today from wiggle - very quick free delivery as I ordered it on new years day. I bought it because I do spend a fair amount of time looking over my shoulder - fine in the summer but a lot more difficult with a heavy, high necked jacket on. As recommended (and persuaded) by this very useful forum.

you did well there as just looked at wiggle and it says its £8.99, they are £9.99 at halfords so if you got free delievery thats brilliant as postage must be a couple of pound on it,..in effect £3 cheaper then halfords..suppose thats the difference between mail order and a shop..more costs with a shop which have to be passed on...but thanks for that as will will order mine from wiggle..a pound is a pound, will just have to stop ,and look right till then, i cant look over my shoulder as i fall off.

I got the same mirror, even though flecc seemed to prefer the round one, mainly because it was the only cateye available in my LBS (edinburgh bicycle co-op) and it was only £6.95 in store IIRC, for some unknown reason :).

Stuart.
It's dependent on the handlebar shape though. I prefer the 300G on fairly straight bars like the Torq's, but the 500G on angled bars like the Kalhoff and Lafree. The round 300G gives a slightly superior all round (sic) visibility.
