Where I work, right next door to us there are lots of recycling places, one of which recycle carbon fibre!
I walked in this afternoon but the lady at the desk was unable to help, so I will ask them tomorrow during my lunch break if they can spare some 1m x 1m carbon fiber for the fairings.

Polycarbonate would be awesome for fairing material but I don't know if I can find anybody who'd be giving it away for scrap price...I'll have a look around the site and see if they know anyone as it would be my preferred material.

Maybe mount the pv cells under a clear Plexiglas or polycarbonate fairing?

I got these in the post today. 5 of them for £31 will mount four spotlights on the 'dipped' section of the handlebars.. They are bright but the angle isn't very wide so I'll be using several to optimize the throw. We'll see how they work out if they are waterproof as they said they would be.
I'm thinking of mounting them in a customized front fairing in either polycarb. or carbon fibre

Polycarbonate is quite often used in building applications etc, Wickes etc sell it, look for a damaged sheet and haggle?
