Hi, I have only ridden non-electric up to now but I did convert my partner's Dawes Discovery 201 with a front hub kit from eBay several years ago. My own bike is a Dawes Galaxy and I really like it. I have just bought another Dawes Galaxy with a Sparticle front hub conversion fitted by an Electris Bike shop in Bristol. It has a Sparticle badged Bafang motor but it is hard to get information about Sparticle kit. It only has a thumb throttle and I am trying to find out if I can make it a true pedelec with a PAS. The motor control has lots of heat shrink over the wiring which is neat but makes it hard to know what connections are available. I am hoping I can find some information and advice on this site. Cheers to all.

As a newbie I would be very grateful for help with Search. When I do a search, I get lots of results but none of them are live links so I can't click on them and read about what was posted - what am I doing wrong? !

Depends on what device you're usingto view the website with, the live links are usually purple - I tend to use Google instead. You can search a specific site using Google with a search term like:

Sparticle site:pedelecs.co.uk

...to get:

Edit: I've just seen that this website throws a tongue sticking out face wherever it sees a colon followed immediately by a "p", which isn't helpful. The above search term should look like this, but without the space between the colon and the ""p":

Sparticle site: pedelecs.co.uk

Sparticle is just standard Chinese stuff. It's been around for quite a long time, so there are probably different versions. The only important thing is the connector on the motor. If it has the standard 9 pin, you can change the controller to a much nicer one. I'd be surprised if your present one doesn't have the connector for the PAS.

Thanks for that. At the motor hub the connector has 6 pins, 3 bigger pins and 3 smaller ones. Does that limit the choice/availability of controllers?
I think there is a spare Julet connector tucked away under the controller. So I assume that is an unused PAS connector. If I buy an add on PAS sensor does it matter how many magnets - I see some Bafang ones on eBay with 12 magnets?
The Sparticle display does not have any menu or settings except on/off and power level 1 to 8 and 0. The thumb throttle only works on 0. So I don't think I can change settings like number of magnets.

You have a sensorless motor and special connector, which limits your choice of controllers or you'd have to cut the motor connector off and solder all the wires.

That's probably a PAS connector. Avoid any sensor with 12 magnets. 5, 8 or 10 would all be OK.
