and welcome to the forum. You might need to do a separate post in the electric bikes forum about your problem. Try to give a little more detail about what the problem appears to be so that people can offer sensible advice

Hi Dawn welcome aboard. Sure you'll get some help on here. Don't leave it disconnected forever though! Replace it at some point, comes in handy.

Stops you accelerating (either by the pedal assist or throttle) when your brakes are pressed, sometimes a single pedal turn can trigger the assist and lurch you forward. Its just a safety feature, worth having for the sake of a few quid.
