Hello - and question about a problem

Hi,

Just wanted to introduce myself, and also ask if anyone has any advice about a problem that I've been having.

I found this site when looking for information about the Powacycle bike that I have and Bob Jones (the previous owner of the bike had some documentation about fixing the bike that had Bob Jone's name on).

The bike I have is a Windsor Powacycle - about 5-6 years old judging by the documentation that came with it, but still in very good condition. I brought it about a year ago off the previous owner, and it had a faulty throttle and/or switch, but still worked fine on the pedal sensor.

It seems to have been getting more unreliable, sometimes working fine, sometimes not working at all, and when I last took it out, mostly not at all. I'm suspicious that it may be something to do with either the brake sensors or pedal sensors (or possibly the controller), as when it did work last time I took it out, the pedal assist kept working until I had to brake to stop for some traffic lights. When I took it to a local electric bike shop though however, they said that they thought it was the battery, as it was only reporting half charge, and the batteries behave strangely after they're a certain number years old and put under a heavy load (although I haven't experienced this).

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Many thanks, Peter.

Follow the brake wires to the controller, which is in the compartment under the battery. Disconnect them and see if the problem goes away.

If your battery indicator LEDs go down and out when your motor cuts, you have a knackered battery. If they stay on, the problem is elsewhere.

Many thanks - that helps a lot, as the battery LEDs seem fine, and stay on.

I'll investigate the brake wires.

Many thanks, Peter.
