My Headway Bike is very good but I now need a new battery but can not find one in the UK

You can try contacting the Headway battery company Zhejiang Xinghai direct about their e-bike batteries. Normally these companies are only interested in importer inquiries but they may be able to direct you to a source. Here's their contact page:

P.S. You can use other makes of battery of course and arrange new connections. Is your model the carrier or rear of seatpost battery version?

I contacted the company in China, not heared back. The battery is at the rear under the seat

That is a common problem with many Chinese companies, unwillingness to provide even the slightest aftermarket support to indiviuals.

If you are unable to find the correct slot-in battery eventually, one solution is to use another make and mount it on the carrier, arranging cable connections to the bike's own battery base connectors.
