anyone know what the top and bottom size bearings i need for my haibike as since i fitted a new stem have got a creaking noise and it is driving me nuts.

i changed back to the old stem and it is still there with that so cant see what else it could be as all bolts checked and are fine.

tho i cant see after all this time it now decides to make a noise when i fitted the new stem as it was fine for a few miles then started making a noise.

will pull the forks out and check them b4 i buy any new ones ;)

tbh i think i just need to remove the forks and give it all a good clean as i bet some grit has got inside the bottom bearing thus making a creaking noise.

or worst case the bearings are knackered ;)

You put the stem on without clamping it, then do up the cap screw until all the play has gone from the head bearings. Make sure that you don't tighten beyond that point. You feel the play when you hold the front bake on and push the bike back and forwards. When the play is gone, tighten the stem clamp screws.

yeah done that with both stems it is clamped in right as i do the top cap bolt then position the bars and then tighten the stem clamps per instruction and greased the bolts for the stem as well.

holding the front brake does not make it creek when pushing on it as hard as i can but on the road it starts doing it with not even me holding the bars.

when i put the new stem on the fork did move a bit so i bet some grit has got in and making it creek as the stem is fitted per instruction.

ill give it all a clean and do a fresh install ;)

SW, a more accurate way to check headset bearing adjustment, is to position the front wheel against a wall, and gentle push forward on the top tube. The method suggested by Dave, doesn't remove the free play/feel transmitted from brake pad movement, and in the case of your bike, any movement that the fully floating discs might have.

Or turn the wheel 180 degrees, which will also tend to remove any confusing messages from the sus fork.

When you inspect them, you'll know if they need replacing. Don't buh anything until you've checked them first. The normal reason for failure isthat wayer got in and rusted them rather than wear. Also, you can feel any problems in the steering if you lift the wheel off the ground.

I can't believe that your creaking is anythinv to do with the head bearings as long as they're properly adjusted. More likely, it's just a cable rubbing.
