Returned from ride and found that my pedal was loose chainwheel side,....... yes your right thread completely shot just alloy shavings. (beginning to think designed this way ) is it me or just been unfortunate ,..this is the second chain-wheel this has occurred, poor engineering to fit steel into alloy which of course is softer, years ago very rare you heard of this must have been far better quality..what say you...

What chainset was it?

When I worked in a bike shop all the cheap chainsets had this happen to them and you could nearly guarantee all sub £250 bikes needed to have new cranks in the first year.

Anything above the Acera X level in the Shimano line was ok. We saw problems on Altus and Tourney occasionally but nowhere near as often as on no-name "department store" quality chainsets.

Not sure if I understand - but if the pedal wasn't firmly tightened into the crank during the pre-delivery check, then what you've described is bound to happen. Expensive parts just as shot as cheap parts, after a more reasonable interval.

I'm very pleased with my Cyclamatic Foldaway, but nothing was done up properly when I got it. Spokes came loose (twice), front wheel tightened (twice), saddle came loose, charging fuse came loose etc etc.

I noticed the pedal bearings were left "floppy", I ignored it until one snapped inside and no longer spun!

However, I'm a cheap-skate and that gives me endless trouble. I'm sure you're not like me!
