Has anyone tried this "For Bafang" thumb throttle?

My Bafang BBS01B conversion is throttle-less, but I keep one in my toolkit in case of emergencies, such as that time my pedal fell off and I lacked the right Allen key, or if an accident somehow leaves me with one usable leg or something... but the thumb throttle I have requires the removal of a Zefal end-bar mirror, handlegrip, brake and one display mount leg to install... which is a bit much to do on the roadside. Has anyone tried this throttle, which looks like an easy roadside bolt-on? The cable looks a tad short, but I have spare from my old wiring harness, which I could solder on.

It's interesting but that plug looks like from Julet, won't fit your bbs. It takes about the same amount of space compared to the throttle you have now.

Thanks, that's good to know - I could cut off the connector with cable from the throttle I have now and solder that on, which would also lengthen this throttle's cable.


It takes about the same amount of space compared to the throttle you have now.
In a pinch, looks like it could be installed in between the display's leg mounts, without having to take almost everything off that side of the handlebar.

...or I might be able to find a way of operating my old throttle while holding it in one hand while holding onto the handlebar with that hand, or ziptie it onto the handlebar somehow, possibly sideways.

I doubt it can be incorrect otherwise the item will never be of use . It might look like a julet but it surely would be a Higo or a Higo copy, the pin outs would have to be BBS compatible otherwise no one will buy them .

Simply use a meter on your bbs throttle connector on the controller side and check the battery - & 5v pin outs /polarity are the opposite as shown in that diagram.

Have you got room on the handlebars for one of these?
I may have room for one of those with a single mount - I'll have to see what space I can make available, while retaining my bikes folding capability. If absolutely necessary in the interim, ziptying the throttle on sideways seems to make it temporarily usable (index finger over the throttle's ridge). It's in my toolkit, re-usable zipties and all ready to deploy in an emergency.

Failing that, I could simply engage it constantly using a ziptie, and ebrake when needed...

Thanks @Nealh, I've ordered the throttle linked above. At that price the seller (like the last one) is probably lying about "UK Stock". Yodel or somesuch will probably send me a message saying they're waiting to receive the package in the UK, while it's posted from China, again.

I'm always up for a spot of soldering, unless it's batteries! There's not a chance in hell I'd use a battery I'd soldered/welded, even with a cream cheese early warning system.

Remove the grip. Install throttle. Put grip back on.

I don't think the Police know that throttles are legal on conversions. Also, I don't want to end up being cased through the courts by some insurance company post-accident, by lawyers who don't know pedelec law either. Besides, I don't need one, because my bike is set up like a throttleless moped anyway - ghost pedal and it away it goes at 18A. A quickie clip on throttle for emergency use, is all I require.

That is exactly what I had in mind. Do what I said - 2 minutes simple job. No need to buy anything or worry about your mirror. Simples
I like my solution better - obviously, you can do whatever you like.

My bike is even more conspicuous with me riding it. Hiviz head to toe, lit from the front by a headlight pointed backwards at my hiviz self, flashing red LED sash on my back.

Nope. I'll sort it all out when it arrives. For me it's worth the punt. I have a spare controller in case something unlikely happens.

BTW, saw this feedback before I ordered. Ebay doesn't put up with this sort of thing, unlike AliExpress.

I am not surpised. The plug on the picture in your post #1 looks like Julet 3-pin male. Bafang BBS throttle comes with Higo 3-pin female.

I left the throttle disconnected for years, and in it's absence there may have been some oxidisation of the pins/sleeves inside the connectors, which resulted in "Throttle won't switch off" syndrome. I had simply capped them off, with the connector lids the kit arrived with - those are not waterproof. I gave the pins a short dunk in 90% isopropyl when I noticed the problem during maintenance (it's convenient being able to throttle indoors when adjusting and testing gear changes)...and it seemed to work for a time, but the syndrome returned shortly afterwards. @jimriley resolved that issue by replacing his BBS01B kit throttle with another of the same type IIRC. I'm curious to see if this throttle will do the same. The controller exhibits no problems, I reckon it's the throttle.

It's still working fine. Do you want me to find the link? Problematic at moment, away on narrowboat with very poor signal.
