Handle Bar Bags???

does anybody have any ideas for handle bar bags for KTM Bosch bikes with the HTM unit right in the middle of the bars on the stem...

the HMI is quite wide, and Altura fittings etc dont seem wide enough on the bars to work..

any ideas folks, or just use wobbly velcro straps??

I am really not a fan of heavy carry weights added onto steering.

I guess a small bag with maybe 1kg of weight would be ok.

Why don't larger wheeled bikes have welded lugs on the header tube so that a basket or bag can be added without loading the steering

I guess its easier with smaller wheeled bikes.

a good point Jerry, but I dont know of any stock bike with a bar bag mount as a factory option...

Bosch bikes, with down tube batteries, tend not to have a bottle cage either....

the Carradice option looks good Alex, but its not the bag so much, as whether the mount is wide enough to clear the rather large, HMI 'dashboard' .....I dont want to buy and then find that after destroying the (inevitable) blister packaging, that the clamps are either not wide enough, or big enough to go around this new breed of 31.8 mm oversize handle bar.............fashion has a lot to answer for

They use a standard Rixen Kaul click-fix mount for which you can get a 31.8mm adaptor for a couple of quid. I actually modified one of these mounts for my big front headlight so can measure it if you like. Needed it to clear my centre-mounted Cycle Analyst.

yes, they all look promising, BUT the support arms are not wide enough to clear the bracket that supports the HMI unit

we actually tried to fit klickfix in the shop, but no-go.....

and the basket bracket wont go around the handle bar riser, as I have raised the bars a few cms

maybe some other Bosch bike driver has had the same problem???

and solved it???

Aah ... that doesn't sound promising. This is the one which the Carradice bag uses :

That one is really nice. Too bad it can handle 7kg max... I'd like something that can handle 15 kg ahah

unless someone has actually bought a handle bar bag to fit a Bosch bike with the Intuvia 2013 HMI unit, then maybe I will have to resort to a cheapy ebay bag supported by flexible velcro straps...

basically for a camera, but as there is no bottle cage options, then probably for a glucose drip too.....

I guess the safety aspect is an objection Jerry. If someone placed something a little too bulky in a headstock frame mounted basket it could block the handlebar steering at a crucial moment.

I have daily a 15kg bag on my brompton steering and it never blocked my handlebar.

I also tried hamdlebar bag and it's awful on control.

Nothing worth the steering luggage block!

Not everyone uses them sensibly, and I was speaking of a basket. Put something too tall and bulky in and it will get in the way of the handlebar turning.

I've got several bikes and I've standardised on the red button Klickfix system.

I have an adapter on each bike and the three main attachments, a handlebar bag, a mesh basket, and the large shopping bag.

Each bike needed a slightly different adapter, and this one needed the most clearance at the front.

It's on a Spartamet 30cc Dutch cyclemotor,

I used a metal standoff bag adapter, and fixed a standard Klickfix fitting to that.

It could be mounted on the stem, but I've put it on the quill, so that it rotates with the handlebars.

I got a reply from the KTM supplier in Austria, and Klik Fix do a special KTM e-bike fitment....which is a lot cheaper in Austria than it would be here (if you could get one!!)

If you ring them im sure they could make just what you want to allow for the battery in the frame.
