we're not going to argue with that... but I'm afraid an sClass for road use, like they have in Germany (which is the market these bikes are made for) is not going happen at any time soon. And if / when it does happen, it'll be a motorbike class, not a bicycle class.
If an "S" class is a motorbike, then fine its a motorbike.
Motorbike usage is allowed in the UK. German motorbikes in particular do very well over here.

Why as a UK citizens we are discriminated against? If I were in Germany, I could get to work on my "S" class.

If the powers that be are now so worried about dongle use then maybe they should follow the Germans.

As we are told time and time again, dongles can lead to potential liability issues.
A registered and insured "S" class would leave the user fully legal on the road and any victim of any accident covered by the insurance policy.

It would appear that the system has been configured in such a way as to prevent the legal use of these machines without good reason.
Therefore it is the system that is at fault, not the users. Is it any wonder that illegal dongle use occurs.

Given the choice, I would have a standard pedelec and "S" class to cover all travel scenarios. Hopefully when we finally catch up with the Germans this will be allowable.

I agree, it would be great for everyone if we followed Germany into making the sPedelecs a class of moped that could be registered and used legally on the roads. Then we could start selling them and make some cash :)

The problem is there are lots of countries in Europe and they get to choose how they implement European Law, and just because something can be made legal, doesn't mean it will. So there are many things legal in Germany, but not legal here, and equally some things legal here, that are not legal in Germany.

For instance in this country we're lucky to be able to have throttles on our road legal pedelecs. This isn't legal in most countries.

I far as I understood, the idea was to harmonize things across Europe.

Not sure why you would wish to do that but if that is the idea, then get on and do it.

Stick all the best ideas from each country in the pot and get on with life.

Alternatively, don't blindly follow the other countries. Instead choose to make up our own laws based on population requirements.

You would need to employ specialists in each field in order to this that but it must be possible.

I've never seen any posts like this on the forum
Hi, I currently ride a moped that cost me £400 second hand, insurance is £60, VED is £16, and the local MOT place costs £20, I get about 120 mpg, and do about 2,000 miles a year going to work and back on it.
Would I be better off with one of these fast e-bikes? I'm not very keen on having to pedal though.
