Anyone got any experience with the Haibike Trekking or Cross models please?

Im considering buying one of them, mostly for commuting to work but also for cycling around the local park with my son. I notice ebikeshop can sell them with the speed restriction dongle, which might be useful away from public roads.

They both appear to be the same bikes, but the Trekking has mudguards & light etc which would be useful for commuting. The Cross doesn't have these, but appears to have slightly different wheels & tyres.

Im attending a local Bike Fest later this month where a local retailer is taking their ebikes for customers to try.

So, anyone here got a Haibike Trekking or Cross?

If you do buy bike with dongle from ebikeshop..make sure to ask martin to fit it where it can be easily removed if that's what you want otherwise he may fit it in with the motor as he did with mine..i don,t mind it like that.

I have a Trekking RC model. In 1.5 years I have put just over 2,200 miles wonderful, trouble free mixed conditions riding on it. I have the 400wh model that gives me 45 to 60 miles range depending how ambitious I am. The new Trekking, with the 500wh battery, is a great improvement in range and is the same price as last years 400wh model.

The 20 speed gearset allows you to comfortably ride with no assit. I really liked the bike geometry and have a 56cm frame which is a bit oversize for me but that is my preference for comfort. The 700 x 40c tyres will allow for use on road and gravel trail. As I use it mostly on pavement for commuting, l switched to 700 x 35c Schwable Marathon Plus Tours. The addition of a good quality suspension seat post made this a really great ride. The lights are good for darkened cycle trails at night but would invest in a 280+ lumin light for wooded trails.

Hope this helps, safe journeys all.

Thanks for the info. Im looking forward to trying them out later this month.

I do like the look of the 2018 models. Shame it doesn't have the newer in-frame battery.

Just read your review, and found it enjoyable, thanks.

What kind of lock did you use when you were inside the pubs charging your battery? Not sure I'd dare let a Haibike out of my sight :(
I used a conventional cable lock of pretty good quality, but yes I suppose anyone with boltcroppers could have cut through it. It's always a risk but I've used the pub before and it was around towards the back not near the entrance. Is a rural location so thought it ok especially cus I had taken the battery and screen off it beforehand. I have a motorbike lock for more risky situations but I agree can be abit of a worry. You mentioned you plan to commute, is that to work? Will you have a secure isn't place to leave it?

I always use a good quality D lock. I always take the dashboard with me too.

I recently purchased the Abus 6500/85 Bordo Granit X-Plus Folding Lock to secure mine and my lads bikes whilst away on holiday. It does appear to be a good lock, and an awkward shape for bolt croppers..

Yes, the area I would be storing it at work is about as secure as you could possibly get, well lat least from members of public.
