Hi

I had an accident on Monday evening which ended up with me off the bike in a hedge / wall and the bike half on pavement and middle of road. I could no longer change any gears as the pedals would not budge. I managed to cycle home another four miles using one gear. Once home I realised I was bleeding a lot and had a nice hole in my knee so that I could see .. The inside bits. Hospital visit. Some stitches given and now I have not been able to move my knee other than a few mms more day. It simply does not want to bend unlike my bike bits.

Anyhow. my main concern is making sure I can get the Haibike back working for when I am good enough to go back to work as that is my only method of transport now the VW Camper is in resto. Or on back of motorbike. Do the bike is injured. I have sent a photo to ebikeshop who have sent me a small small black hanger thing. Now I need to know what to do in girl speak please?

(Bosch dual sram haibike 2015)

I need to know a few answers to simple questions please. If anybody could take 5 minutes of their time to just simply explain without using all this bike terminology talk then hopefully I can get it sorted.

1. in order to remove the rear wheel... Sram and click box. What position does the left gear shifter need to be in? Top / middle / bottom ? AND does the right gear shifter need to be in any particular number 1-9?

2. The hydraulic brakes... Do I need to do anything with these to take wheel off and put back on? i had read some time ago they would stick on open or close or something like that?

3. The fitting of the small black hanger.. What do I need to take off in order to replace it with new hanger thing?

4. What ohms / pressure rating things or whatever they call it do the allen key need and the wheel bolt for rear (not got quick release)

Just had some details from ebikeshop but if you could still reply here as well I would get my head round it a bit easier. Will try posting picci but seems I need to use photobucket as the upload button doesn't work here.

The brakes pads can close when the wheel is out, making it hard to get the rotor disc back into position when you replace the wheel.

To stop the pads closing, you put something between them, almost anything will do, a lolly stick, a bit of folded cereal packet.

That will stop the pads closing when the wheel is out if you accidentally pull the brake lever.

There a few pics here of the 'transport device' supplied by Magura with their brakes.

No need to bother with the rubber band.

i guess most people would not press brakes accidentally (I would for sure!). Thanks.. Useful advice. I think some spacers came with the bike :)

I'm guessing that you have been sent a rear derailleur hanger. I haven't watched the following clip, but it might be a starting point for you, in respect of finding others. :)

Also sorry to hear about your injury, and hope that you are on the mend soon. :)

Going by memory, on the side of the plastic cover where your DD3 gear selection goes into the rear hub, there is a button. Pressing this releases the gear selection rod, so the the rear wheel can then be removed. The quality of the nuts that retain the rear wheel is very poor, and can easily be stripped. If possible, get someone proficient to check these after you have replaced the wheel. In an ideal world, you would bin the original nuts for something of better quality.

If you are brave enough to search through it (I'm not after having a couple of beers) Then this might also help. https://www.sram.com/sram/search?keywords=dd3

Not knowing how the impact happened, I would also suggested the you either suspend or turn the bike over, and check that the rear wheel isn't buckled/bent.

That doesn't look too badly bent (but can't see fully), it might be worth trying to tease it back gently and straighten it up? Although derailleurs can be tricky to get to play nice!
Whereabouts in Wales are you, there might be a spanner friendly member somewhere near you who may be able to help out?

Ah, try as you might they get squeezed. Rather like Father Dougle and a big red button saying 'Don't Press'.
