Idc ebikes are limited to 15.5 anyways and my old powaybke only does 12.5 ish nowadays it's getting a bit tired. Like if you go above 15.5 you have to pedal wiut no help and that's so frustrating . Used to do it a bit on my old cyclamatic ebike but with 3 leaded acid cells on this one it'd be a nightmare anyways.

No one has stated the obvious, let's go back in history to the time when the man with the red flag was around. It worked, though there were consequences.
But today, these people who run could serve a useful purpose to us cyclists by warning the pedestrians and other road users that we were coming.
It's a good an idea, as some being mentioned.

Before any cycling nonsense it introduced vehicle owners need to respect the road side infrastructure and stop parking on verges and pavements causing not only untold damage but blocking the way for pedestrians and other pathway users.

I've always felt the fatal mistake the authorities made back in the early 1920s was to allow any long term street parking to develop. No-one had ever garaged their horse and cart etc. in the street so the same should have been enforced for any motor vehicle. A refusal to register a vehicle without proof of an exclusive off road parking space would have done the trick.

Had the right decision been made back then, our world would have looked very different now. There would be far fewer cars on the road, better public transport for housing areas and newer infrastructure would have made allowance to get cars off the roads when not in use.

Retail has managed to provide off road parking for retail parks and many major shopping centres and so have large commercial vehicle operators, so it was always possible with forethought.

I beive that in most Japanese citys you have to prove that you have off street parking space before you can register a vehicle

Singapore goes much further, it costs a small fortune to even contemplate owing a car there and their numbers are strictly rationed, so just getting permission to have one is a lottery.

Their parking charges are eye watering too.

I agree it is attitude rather than speed.

The most common issue for me, living in a quiet largely rural area, is when walking along a shared use path. A bike suddenly goes past without warning, sometimes quite fast. If I haven't seen it (assume it came from behind), the sudden tyre noise and whoosshh of wind and tyres can be quite unsettling. Even worse if I had been just about to turn across their path. They don't mean to do anything wrong, but I do wish they'd ring a bell as a warning, well before they reach me.

As nothing compared to what happens in major towns and cities.
I have a bell and live in a rural area. The problem is I ring it repeatedly but a huge proportion of walkers, joggers etc are wearing ear buds or have a mobile stuck on their ear. Living in another world! Perhaps I should get one of those compressed air horns!

it would only take 2 phone zombies running in different directions constantly checking there stravia app to hit each other as ppl are killed on mobility scooters going 5mph.

i just cant work out how you could kill someone on a mobility scooter unless you drove it off the 2nd floor in a department store and squished the person it landed on as my mums must be at least 50kg.
mobility scooters generally have lead acid batteries like my first Powerbyke 22 years ago. Their weight is good for stability and they are cheap. But the scooters must be pretty heavy. And a lot of pedestrians are old and frail and don't take to being crushed even at only 5mph.

I suspect that in a face saving measure for the idiot knowlegeable Mr Shapps, it could well happen that legislation is introduced whereby speed limits applying to cars\vehicles are also applied to cycles.

Applying even the 20mph limit would affect only a very small minority of cyclists and would not be a major inconvenience.

The anti cycling lobby still wouldn't be happy they'd just accuse us of holding them up by not reaching or exceeding the speed limit.

Powered by a 5.5kWh battery, the pure electric vehicle with zero-emissions has a top speed of 28mph and a range of up to 46 miles. It recharges in just three hours.

imo for a 100k tesla you will need to pay a subscription fee every month to unlock motor way mode

i cant find a batt for it either so imo they want you to throw it in the bin and buy a new one when its dead o_O

I suppose it means you have to have a speedometer attached to your bike working at all times or you won't know the speed you are going. Maybe it will need to be calibrated and checked regularly etc. Even small law amendments may mean further legislation. Making a cycling computer a legal requirement so you can see the speed you are going would be annoying and possibly distracting having to monitor your speed all the time. Personally I can't see it happening.

It is those issues which are the problems.

I have no problem having a 20mph limit in the same places where that applies to cars, or on shared use paths, etc. It is the need for some way of knowing your speed for it to be seen as fair and reasonable.

I know I used to cycle to work along a road with a pleasant but modest downward slope. With a bit of effort, I could hit 30mph most days.

I live round the third turn of a cul-de-sac - at the very end. It really is quiet here. Hence the local children scoot, cycle, etc. on the pavements and road. (Very pleased they are able to - it is pretty safe and they do behave well.) Will they also need speedos? And number plates?

my kiox display is tracking that data on its own there is no gps as left phone at home, when the phone is later synced to the display it sends it to the app, it did not do this b4 i updated the kiox software.

so if you have gps and a gen 4 smart display they could in real time track your speed and send a 504 speed manipulation error and send the motor in to limp mode.

this will be the same for electric cars and tracked everywhere and then speed limited on say 20mph roads ect.

and the best bit is you will pay monthly for the gps sat nav to track your every move
