Yes, you only have to look at it hard. When you knock firmly on an Aptera they can roar off into the distance. :D
I wasn't envisioning ebikes bashing themselves against train doors in transit, or ebikes escaping up escalators lol... but if it's an accelerometer activating the battery's BMS multiple times a day, won't electrons wear out some switching component on the BMS sooner than usual?

Hiya,

Here the exact wording of their email to me

"Hello Spanos,
thanks for your message and for giving us a chance.
It will definitely work with bafang.
For Bosch we've managed to reverse engineer the protocols but they have so many updates that i cannot promise for all versions.
Cheers"

So make of it what you will!

And I'd prob go molicel 35 or lg mj1. Both 3500 mah and 10a. Ive used the mj1 for years. Prob just get the cheapest at thr time !
I don't think it's impossible that this company has reverse engineered enough of Bosch's protocols to do the job. One of my customers sells and installs Ghost immobiliers - the hackers who created that system haven't completely reverse engineered Range Rover, BMW, Mercedes etc. protocols, but they have utilities which identify which codes activate which subsystem they need basic control of, using the CANbus system to create the immobiliser. If they encounter a completely new unknown car, apparently they bring in a crack Russian hacker who plugs his laptop into the car, runs a bunch of routines while watching the screen output looking like The Matrix, as the utilities help identify the required codes to try. My customer couldn't provide any more detail unfortunately. I'll waterboard him next time.

It's starting to feel like an scam.
It doesn't look like a scam to me. Just one of many startups out there.

For me lack of on/off switch is a deal braker, but for sure battery as a whole is an interesting concept. I will consider it when I will need a new battery. I hope they will make some improvements by that time.

To be picky for a moment my understanding is that it does have an on/off switch, I'd assume with on being activated by a gentle sharp tap and off by disconnection from the cradle or a timeout while disconnected, or something along those lines. They mentioned an accelerometer, the output would be filtered (or better) to only accept a sharp tap, not the softer sways and bumps of being carried around.

Can't find it now  but their BMS includes something similar to a pre-charge circuit that mainly protects the battery contacts and would also give the controller capacitors an easy life, and the MOSFETS themselves shouldn't wear through switching often.

Assuming the battery stays on while riding when is it useful to be certain it stays off? When the bike's parked curious fingers can turn any battery back on; when handling it things can bump a physical switch back on; I think it's mainly useful for shelf storage and they've got that covered.

What if one was in the process of taking the wise move of installing 6000LM of flashing headlights to stop cars jumping blindly out in front of one's bike at intersections, and one simply wanted to switch the battery on to test them, or to do any of the large variety of tests for other ebike parts which are suggested on this forum... would a hard sharp physical shock be required every time? Is there a filter pass through for jolts of a diagnostic nature? Will thick silicone gel filled gloves be provided for diagnostic thumping, to prevent damage to the case? If it didn't switch on with a hard knock, I expect various dudes would chime in with helpful suggestions like "Bang it!!!", "Bash out FIRE in Morse!", "Throw it down stairs!", "Needs a blunt object, headbutt worked for me"" etc. Highly inconvenient, not to mention unnecessarily noisy not having a simple on/off switch, and for me an innovation too far. I do hope they will offer a cheaper, less exhausting conventionally switched option.

I'm wondering how often users will screw up by putting the cells in the wrong way. Diodes?

My scam radar went off as soon as they offered me the opportunity to pay $1.. the age old 'rope em in' trick to ensure your mark has an interest in getting conned.. ..

But the crowd funding ad is up.. and just more Q's

is it just a case? cells are listed under addons where i was expecting to find details and cost of the 'Battery Mixer' I would need with a controller embedded within my current battery mount ??

an optimistic buyer may think they are offering to replace cells indefinitely??

It is just a case, mount and 'smart' bms that will arrive isnt it?

Took me a couple of scan throughs to be sure.. its a case and bms etc only, HA!

ambiguity isnt a good sign imho.

Anyone already paid and expecting more than the case etc will be disappointed.. im sure they will catch a few..

There are few buying options. Case only as you said, case and loose cells for self assembly and battery assembled and tested.
Ah-- I see once you select a 'perk'.. so circa 400 euro inc pnp for the full package. (my use would require a 'battery mixer')
still a little unnecessarily ambiguous on the way there. and could still mislead the impatient buyer.
Certainly a well timed product that could have potential if it lives up to its claims but not worth the buy in for me atm without a current need for a further battery. Shame they chose particular marketing strategies that are commonly found in scams. could even be counterproductive. though im probably not representative..

Yeah they could be clearer. Is the Yose's range worth the cost of a mixer? You wouldn't need the mixer if you take the pins out of the Yose sled or rehouse the controller in a 'ABS project box'.

Cheers, a few issues tho 1) i like the 'hidden controller' form factor.. ok 1 issue..
Well... I humbly disagree. As an Esteemed Pedelecer you deserve something better than Yose kit for beginners.

...but what do I know... ;)
Go Team Yose!! - while not a performance ebike at all my ol ploddrer has benefited greatly from the conversion, no longer is it "Oh Damn/****/Bollx, i had better get the bike out then" as it was pre-conversion, but more "Oh, i had better get the bike out" now :) whenever i need/want to pop off somewhere local. The weather can still elicit a more colourful reaction however.

Well I do hope you are right. Still I just couldn't pull the trigger on a 200 euro case with bms and charger (no cells)

For me the whole thing didn't pass the sniff test in the end. Happy to wait and see, if it all works out and , crucially, it does play nicely with bosch systems I'll pay the extra full price

The fact that it's so expensive implies to me that it's not a scam. My only uneasy feeling comes from whether it'll work with the latest CAN systems.

An 'open' coms module is an exciting prospect, not only to enable the use of future defined codes for systems but if it also exposes other coms features of the h/w such as ble, then @Az.'s physical on/off switch could involve a $5 ble button and a few minutes configuration..

I totally agree, slightly flippant post on my behalf. I've a welder , can and have sourced cellss, hl cases and just built my own. The value for me is not in the weldless solution nor the fire resistance. Its all about the claim to have reverse engineered bosch so t plays nicely. It's that bit, which I think is same for you, that I'm just not sure about. Especially given the email I posted. Which I suspect was an unguarded moment as I've seen nothing like that publicly

Thanks so much to this community for the continued support you've been showing us! Much appreciated!

We're finally launching on IndieGogo and there's a 25% OFF offer for the early birds!

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/infinite-the-repairable-universal-ebike-battery/x/8167177#/

@Oulipo - There's this thread about the Infinite Battery already. How did you decide on product pricing? What factors defined the upper and lower limits of the pricing "Goldilocks Zone"? Too expensive for me, and there is no manual on/off switch. Also, being able to find a replacement cell or cells to match the characteristics of the used ones remaining in the pack, seems a difficult task - can you provide any tips, and how safe would the resulting battery pack be?

Do delivery charges appear after the page where card details are requested? Where are these kits being sent from? How much do you charge for delivery to the UK? What additional charges are there? VAT, customs etc.
