Giant Roam XR Hybrid: anyone seen or tried this. Views and opinions

Giant Roam XR Hybrid and the Talon 29er Hybrid


Has anyone seen and/or tried these new bikes from giant. the detailing looks good and they are powered by the "SyncDrive R rear hub motor," If anyone can shed further light on these £1800 ish bikes I would be interested to hear more

I'm currently riding a Giant Escape 1, which uses a similar version of the SyncDrive hub motor. Mine also has a 36v 10Ah battery.

Overall I'm very impressed with the bike, the general build and riding performance are first rate IMHO.

I'd certainly like try the Road XR Hybrid.

Is it a direct drive motor? What's it like to pedal at 20mph? Does it go like a non-electric bike down-hill?

Mine came from Fulford Cycles in York. They have demo models available. I did a 9 mile test ride on mine.

The bike pedals well when unpowered, I did over 20 miles unpowered at the weekend when cycling with my eldest son. It doesn't seem fair to use assistance when I'm out with him It appears to free-wheel and go down-hill just like a normal bike.

I usually ride with minimum assistance (ECO mode) but the bike is still torquey. I usually manage around 30 miles (no major hills in my area) but I never worry about having to cycle home if I flatten the battery.
