Hi

For sale is my fathers electric bike, he passed away a few months ago and therefore no longer required.

My dad purchased the bike new from On Bike in Worcester on 12th October 2016 further to his doctors advice to not to drive anymore. Martin Butterfield can confirm this (the shop owner) and we have receipt from purchase, PDI and manufacturers handbook. This is a one owner bike, purchased new.

The bike is an Gazelle Orange Comfort C8 model, it has covered 122 miles since new, has been stored in the garage and always kept dry. The bike has only been used in dry weather and only for light use (popping to the shops).

The bike comes with all keys (for battery, lock etc) and mains battery charger, my dad had purchased panniers, track pump etc for his own use, this would also be available in the sale.

The bike new was £2,100, due to its age and condition we would be looking for a sale at £1,600ono. The bike is for collection only and test rides would require ID.

Value as always is dependant on what some one thinks it is worth. 1600 might be a bit high for used bike you may have to re think and accept any offer to with in reason of 1200 +.
As a guide bike value minus new battery cost and depreciation 1 yr 25%, 2 yr 35%. Then add battery residual value back on.
Typically the best years of a good battery's life is in it's first 2years. So in your case battery price divide by 24 x 11 = residual £ value. 400wh battery about £400 and 500wh

I would think if 400wh battery; 2100 -- 400 = 1700 -- 27% =
1241 + battery value approx. 180. Used price value approx.
£1421 if the right buyer comes along other wise could well be less.

Recently a nice Wisper torque only a few months old sold for about £800/900 a big mark down from the £1500/1700 new price.

It has the Impulse motor, which will put off some buyers. I've not heard of any failures on Gazelles, but one might reasonably assume that it would be the same as on the more numerous Kalkhoff.

Generally, people don't like to buy electric bikes without guarantees unless they're very cheap. It might be worth checking with Onbike whether there's anything left on the warranty and whether it's transferable, and ask them whether the motor is covered by the Derby Cycles extended warranty pledge and whether that's transferable too. If it is covered, get all the details to show to any prospective buyer.

Sorry to be slow, but I am very interested in a rule of thumb valuation technique for 2nd hand ebikes, but I didn't really follow your example.
2100 (original price) - 400 ( how did you get that? I saw 24 (months?) x 11 (why 11?) giving 264 but don't see how that became 400)
I think I follow the second bit, with 27% being a depreciation figure for 13 months.

Can you clarify what the figures represent?

400 is a guestimate for new battery price, could be higher or lower dependant on the Ah/Wh (capacity). You will need to find that out.
A. Bike price when new.
B. Remove the price of a new battery from the original price.
C. Bike is 12/13 months old so 25% - 27% deprecation from bike price after battery figure taken off.
D. Generally using 24 month battery life for it best years of use divide the battery new cost x 24, then with that figure x by months left to give approx. battery residual value.

So my example (A) 2100 -- (B) 400 -- (C) -- 27%/459 = 1241 + (D) 183 = 1424. My math was poor I was £3 out .

Hopefully that makes for a clearer picture.
