Garmin 510 electrical interference from intuvia display

I have a garmin 510 that I use on my unpowered road bike. It works really well, starts up and finds satelites within seconds, responds instantly to speed changes and automatically uploads to my phone within 20 seconds of switching off.
On the e-bike things are different.. slow to lock on, slow to catch up and stop, when moving often showing 5 mph slower than the intuvia display and recording silly 40mph in places when I know I am only doing 20.
At first I thought it had broken and a factory reset and firmware update didn't help either... but went out on road bike today and it works perfectly....
So could the intuvia display be interfering with it?
It has Bluetooth ant+ and gps all enabled.

Oh ho! 2 big name firms whose equipment isn't radio emmision compliant, what a surprise...

Sorry wrong standards body - RoHS is hazardous substances not radio emissions. I'll be more careful next time.

Sorry but what does that mean exactly..
Some equipment that has a radio capability can interfere with other equipment that whilst not radio equipped can have induced voltages or currents in it from the radio source. And surprisingly vice-versa! I installed secure computing equipment in RAF bunkers in the 1980's and we found that the computer monitors inadvertently radiated radio frequencies into Military UHF band. They should have been totally passive since they were all cable connected devices and had no designed radio capability, but by accident they just did. The were designed to meet a British Standard for the electrical safety of "White Goods" such as cookers, fridges etc - which they did. But no-one thought of checking that they would radiate like a radio navigation aid. We even had to run safety checks in the bunkers to make sure that the terminals did not initiate the explosive release devices on the bomb pylons of the aircraft.

Thanks for that.
The obvious answer is to move it somewhere else...

If I turn on my set top box and then turn on a low energy lightbulb the channel changes all by itself!
Haven't worked out how but have tested it several times and it definitely happens

Thats interesting Phill, I am about to purchase a Garmin Edge 1000 to go on my KTM with a Nyon unit, I wonder if that will have the same issues?

Where have you got your Garmin installed in relation to the Intuvia?

Interestingly I think you have it there.. It works as expected on my other intuvia ebike and on my road bike but the mounting place are different. Yesterday I turned off the gopro and that seemed to sort it.
Am of out shortly but will post mounting pics later..

Are you confident now Phill that the clash is between the GoPro/Garmin and not the Intuvia/Garmin please?

Not 100%.
I have ordered an out front bracket the same as whats on my other bike and am awaiting it coming from china. I cant try it on other bike because it is still at LBS waiting for a new motor but I feel sure moving them apart will resolve the issue.
I have this on order

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handlebar-Carbon-Fiber-Bar-Space-Extender-Bicycle2-Extension-Bracket-Light-R5W9-/311572602726?var=&hash=item488b2c9f66:m:mLH_Oz4VhcDXzK51rga7I9Q

and it just fits nicely either side of the intuvia display. on the left of it I use the out front garmin mount with the garmin and gopro

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OUT-FRONT-MOUNT-FOR-GARMIN-WITH-GOPRO-200-500-800-500-510-520-810-1000-/111888641241?var=&hash=item1a0d152cd9:m:mhPJtzRyqSy8stzD5haTOKQ

and on the right a cree light.
The extension bar makes everything very stable and has worked on my other ebike for months without a problem.

Prior to buying those 2 bits of kit the camera would move if I went over a big bump and the garmin was on those rubbers which didnt feel safe/

hope this helps...

After a bit of testing the anomaly has revealed itself..
Garmin, gopro and intuvia all mounted together.. garmin is lazy and freezes with noise interference on video.
Garmin and gopro on another bike.. all OK.
Garmin and intuvia without gopro... all OK.

So just to be clear Phill, the issue is when all three units are on the bike and running together? Remove any one of the three, leaving the other two, and the problem goes away?

Correct.
Having never heard of this anomaly before I suspect this is a one off minor fault somewhere.
I have been out tonight and left the gopro at home... garmin 510 performed as it should with the speed showing similar to the intuvia and when I pressed the stop and save buttons it uploaded to my phone before I could get my shoes off.
