you may need a new battery. How long does it take to recharge your battery after say 5 miles?

It sounds like your batteries are near end of life and lacking storage capacity.

The SLA batteries these use are fortunately much lower priced than the lithium ones, and there's a supplier on this link. Pick the same capacity size as the existing batteries.

Thanks looking that way but throttle stuck as well could this be causing a fault pls
It shouldn't be, since even full on all the time the range should be much more than 5 miles, two or three times that would be more reasonable if you have the 12Ah batteries. Difficult to be precise though, since range depends on how much hill climbing is involved and how much effort you put in through the pedals.

However, definitely repair the throttle fault first to be sure that everything works well before spending on batteries.

Do yourself a favour with this bike mate.DIY! Lestwise it will cost you a pretty penny getting an e bike shop to sort it out for you. And dont waste your money on SLA batteries advertised as specificaly for electric bikes. You can get 12Ah slas for about a tenner a pop if you shop around on fleabay. As for your throttle, get a scooter throttle again on eBay for less than a tenner and wire it up yourself..job done!
