Yeah, the ar washer is sat on a bunch of other washers to bring it just outside the edge of the freewheel. I'm wondering if maybe one of the holes is a little large on one of the washers and its offset and touching the freewheel. When I tighten the wheel it stays off center.
I was planning on replacing them with stainless ones tomorrow .

What about the disc rubbing on the frame or caliper adaptor? You normally need an extra washer on that side to bring the disc clear.

Disc is fine. Caliper is off at the moment because I'm waiting on a 180mm post to go with my new rotor as at 160 the caliper was grazing the hub. The more feel it the more I think it's an off center washer in the freewheel. I'll put new ones in tomorrow.

How hard is truing a wheel? Am i better off letting lbs do it?

For me, it's dead simple. I do every wheel that I fit on any bike. If you give it to someone else to do, you need to give them the frame too, otherwise they might make it worse. First, you have to get everything fitted correctly.

You can have a go at doing it yourself, then, if you can't get it right, give it to the bike shop to finish it off.

I didn't realise it was a BPM. Have a look on the axle on the disc side behind the inner nut. I've seen them with a full-size washer on the bearing so that it's tightened against the inside and outside races, You need a narrow washer that can only touch the inside race.

On the freewheel side, a normal washer will rub on the freewheel. Again, you need a narrow washer. A standard washer is 24mm O/D and 12mm I/D. You need one with 20 mm O/D.

Anthony, there are two narrow washers, one for each side, if you place them at innermost, they should keep the other washers away from the bearings.

Just to make it clear, the 20 x 12 washer is only for the freewheel side. On the other side it needs to be narrower - something like 18 (or less) x 12.

Just tried a quick dirty fix using brass compression fitting in place of washers to bring the ar washer out far enough and now it spins 8-10 times when spun by hand so just have been a rubbing washer .

I never checked under that nut, I'll pop it off later and check

Well all is good with the new washers, spins about 10 times with a moderate hand push.

Next problem to solve is handlebar config now. My Shimano shifter and hydraulic brakes pair together well but twist throttle interferes with shifter and thumb throttle has to be positioned too far away. Any recommendations for a change in shift or brake?

I have a integrated hdb set very similar to them but all in black on my Boardman 700c.
Mine are Shimano M600 Hone they came without callipers other wise all the bits and bobs with mineral oil were in the box for about £60 on ebay.

d8veh's pic shows the m765 XT's. There's a used pair of them on ebay at the mo in Greece, they are a buy it now sale for £40 delivered. They are for 3 x 9 spd cassette but if you have only 8 spd you should be able to get them to work ok using the stop screws.
