Freewheel play

My 8 speed freewheel can be a bit noisy sometimes, particularly if I’m in too high a gear and need to change down. It’s hard to describe the sound but it is sort of a grinding / clicking sound.

After looking closely at the freewheel I have found there is about 2-3mm of lateral play in the cogs (in relation to the hub motor) suggesting possible wear in the bearings. Would that amount of play be considered ‘normal’ or should I be thinking about changing it?

A freewheel shouldn't be able to move in the axial direction. A bit of run-out (wobble) is quite normal.

I have 8 speed 11T/32T freewheels for £20 inc postage if you need one.

Hi D8veh,

I would like to buy an 8 speed 11T/32T freewheel off you if the offer still stands. How would you want paying? Can you pm me with any details on how to proceed?

Many thanks
