Freego hawk controller

Featured Replies

Can anybody recommend a new controller/lcd screen that can be used on this bike with relative ease ? Your help would be appreciated.
KT 6 mosfet and lcd3 or lcd4, some wire connections may need changing for correct sequence. Nearly any controller will need some minor wire changes if an original can't be sourced.

You will not be able to buy a direct replacement. Freego used several different controllers and control panels. You need ro show us what you have. A photo of all the wires and connectors on the controller will help. Spread them out so that we can see them all, not a birdsnest.

Can you show us what's the handlebars - throttle, any control panel and switches?

Am I correct that there are only the three thick wires that go to the motor, and that there are no 5 thin wires in the motor cable, or does that flat 5 way connect to the motor cable?

In the motor cable there are 5 thin wire and thicker yellow brown and green wires .

As I said earlier, you won't find a direct replacement, but just about any controller will work. Are you OK with soldering?

Yes mate i am

There are two good candidates. At around £40 Brainpower one with the S866 LCD, which will be the same as what you have, but you get the LCD and 5 levels of assist. You'll have to install a wheel magnet type speed sensor that you can nick from an old cycle computer or buy a proprietary one:

At around £70 is the KT sinewave controller, which has a much better pedal assist and it has a better response time to the pedal sensor, and it makes your motor very smooth and quiet, like a new bike. Again, you'll need a speed sensor. Choose an LCD from the dropdown LCD3 is good. don't get an LED dispaly:

There's also this one, which gives the option of going up to 48v later for more power and it's 17A, so 13% more poweful at 36v. That's if you need any more power. This controller is a bit bigger than the 15A one, which is relatively small. if you want to go for it, compare the size with your existing one to see if it's going to fit in the compartment with all the connectors.

It will work with your existing brakes, but you might have to do something with the connectors. When connectors don't match, I just cut them off and solder the wires, which is much quicker and cheaper than sorting out connectors.

Some of those KT controllers have a separate connector for the speed sensor, others onlt have the white wire in the motor hall sensor. A three wire speed sensor goes red to any 5v red, black to any black ground and signal to the white wire. A two wire speed sensor goes with either wire connected to the white and the second to any ground, and if it doesn't work like that the second wire goes to any 5v.

I ordered the king 3 wire sensor alongside your recommended sink wave controller and lcd3 display .

thank you very much for all your help and assistance at getting me to this stage ! No doubt I may be back again when it arrives lol .

Best wishes

Adrian.

Little bit confused with the yellow wires ? Working backwards I only need the brake motor cuts outs do I just use the red blues on the new control and forget about the yellows as the lcd and speed pick up plug in ?

Yellow and black is for two-wire brake switches. the red yellow and black is for a three-wire one (or two). There should be a picture with the wires labelled in the listing from where you bought it.

Connect just the motor, LCD, battery and throttle for testing. Use only small amounts of throttle until you have it working properly (hopefully from the beginning). Once it's running, you can fit PAS, brakes and speed sensor.
