Freego Electric Charger connector help

Hi, Please could you help me with this issue: there appears to be a faulty connection in this section - if I move it back and too it connects then disconnects. Looking on the internet this can be an issue, but the ones shown have screws to remove the cover. How do I get into this one? Does it unscrew, pull off or do neither? Nothing to lose if it is faulty, so see if either plastic bit wants to unscrew, if not then I would carefully trim those black bits away to expose the cable, and then find the break, repair by soldering, then protect with tape and / or shrink wrap.

Before starting, be as sure as possible that it is that connector and not its socket that is faulty.

I wasn't sure if that was because it isn't meant to unscrew or because it pulls apart. You know the shrink wrap, would a hairdryer be sufficient heat to make it shrink?

I think so worth a try, I use soldering iron held close, or hot air gun.

Put the shrinkwrap into position anyway, and find a heat source later to tidy it up if need be!

Sods law, I got rid of the hot air gun that hadn't been used in years about three months ago! I need to get a soldering iron, but I am clueless as to what to look for when getting a reasonably priced good one - it will hopefully be a rare occasion when I use it. Life it never simple is it! Sods law, I got rid of the hot air gun that hadn't been used in years about three months ago! I need to get a soldering iron, but I am clueless as to what to look for when getting a reasonably priced good one - it will hopefully be a rare occasion when I use it. Life it never simple is it! I use Antex soldering irons, yellow CS 18W for electronics small scale work, and blue HP 80W for big joints and shrinkwrap.

The blue HP is available in various ratings, and is cheaper than the yellow CS. Both seem to last forever.

Thank you for the recommendation. I shall have a look for one. One more question, I am probably only going to be soldering electrical wire, so which would be best and what solder do I need to go with it? Many thanks for you help.

Either type would do, but 80W is probably more than you need, and 18W is not enough for bigger wires, so maybe something around 40W. Antex HP40 is listed on ebay at 12.99 inc postage.

Solder: multicore electrical solder, 100g will last ages, 50g may be enough if not used often. Lead free these days. My current roll is 1mm diameter, brand is zuerst, label says Alloy Sn 99.3% Cu0.7% flux 2.2%.
