Forza vs Agattu

Hi Keith

the pro has the 8 speed hub gear but in its unaltered state will phase down the power to ensure it does not assist past 15.5mph. the extra gear would allow the sproket to be reduced slightly more than the agattu. I think from memory Flecc said that a pro connect with a 16 tooth rear sprocket would assis to somewhere between 17mph & 18 mph which is what you are looking for. Battey life will be reduced mind. I still need to fit my speedo to the agattu but will give max speeds etc once this is done.
Just to clarify the effects of reducing rear sprocket size: if you reduce the sprocket from 22 to 16 then you will get a maximum assisted speed of 22/16 x 15.5mph = 21.3 mph. The effect will be the same on an Agattu or a Pro Connect, but due to the Pro Connect's greater range of gears, it is probably more feasible to do it on a Pro Connect and still have a low enough gear to climb steep hills comfortably (depending on your level of fitness).

thank you very much, :) that was what i was wanting to hear,im not sure what will happen for the next month but im pretty sure i would never go for an agatta unless i was about 65... ..sorry no offence to anyone but i would feel i was in a 1950's movie sat upright with me "gay bars", i dont think i would be comfortable pushing hard in an upright position......apart from the pro connect would this formulae be the same for the tork and the wispa ?... i have not done any homework on the specs but did notice the wispa range being very good, but then i did read about motor drag when pedaling...so i have ruled out the agatta i think so left with the "other big 3"...but i am very excited about "21mph pedal assist"...how sad is that..  ...plus i have no hills to bring into any equation which makes my situation different

I agree that the Agattu is not the most modern bike on the road but for me its function over form. I would'nt rule out the sportier pro connect though. This should have a much lower riding position. You should try and get a test ride of as many of the bikes as possible.

excuse my ignorance but if the motor cuts out at 15mph..as i have read..how can it still assist up to 21.3mph ?..

Because it doesn't cut at 15mph (it doesn't "know" the speed). It cuts at 70 rpm (it "knows" the cadance).
And at 70 rpm, on the last gear, with the original sprocket your are at 15mph.
If you change for a smaller sprocket, the motor always cut at 70rpm but at this cadance on the last gear with this smaller spocket you are above 15 mph.

..... but the agatta looks like a bike from the 1940's.....
..and thats why its cool , compared to the Forza which looks like someones taken a £50 BSO from ASDA and stuck a battery on it.

IMHO Agattus are quite masculine in a Germanic sort of way as opposed to Gazelles which are clearly for ladies:)

I agree with that, the Sparta Ion also having a somewhat "feminine" character, though hard to put a finger on exactly why. Perhaps it's the "chunkiness" of many of the Agattu parts, more Wagner than Puccini. :)

ignorance strikes again...whats a BSO ?...:D

i too think the Forza looks like the type of bike that steve macqueen rode in colditze....heavy , unfashionable and a tank.....no offence to forza owners cos after all tanks did help win the war..:D

i do like the look of the pro connect though as looks very light and fast....

A small point Renaud, but the power is all gone at a cadence of 65, actually 64.7 on an Agattu for example. That corresponds to the legal limit speed of 15.5 mph (25 kph).

The initial phase down from full power is at a cadence of 39, and there's more details here.

Sorry Keith, 'Bike Shaped Object'. Its a term (usually of derision) for things that look like a bike , but are often assembled badly and made from components that wouldnt be of any use if it was actually used. Typically the 'supermarket' bike. You know, suspension that doesnt do anything, 24 gears that dont work etc.

Came a bit late to this thread, bin too buisy cycling,
As I sit in a gateway looking at the sea, drinkin a bottle of Speckled Hen (£1.50 on offer) , ((which is why my pence per mile is probably higher than most of you)). I glimpses out of th; corner of me eye The Agattu leaning on it's stand. A thought comes to mind, summut like

Beauty is truth, truth- beauty
-that is all ye know on earth
and all ye need to know.

The Agutta is truly beautiful....in form and purpose

(they don't do a tongue in cheek smilie)
