Hi Scatty i may have done all the research and every review that i read had good reports for the E Bike also if you wanted a high end e bike then you should be paying about £1800 to £2500 or a little more and i just did not want to go to that price. But and it is a big but i over looked one thing and that was weight these bikes are good on electric but trying to ride one without assisted power is like trying to walk through thick toffee with boots on, i had a very light weight push bike 21 gears but it was 12 years old and i thought i could have rode the e bike the same as my push bike and just put assist on for the hills and headwinds as this would have helped my knees but one thing, all e bikes manufacturers need to look at better gearing for their bikes when of power after all you ride 21 miles turn to come back and then fine you have no power so you have to ride Manually the whole way back some fun that, my push bike is now sold but i should have put a e kit on it my fault i hope to have my replacement e bike from Oxygen in a few days when that arrives and i have tested it i might see about fitting a second Chain ring on it so have to talk to a bike shop and see what they say, that is if i keep it , i will make my mind up in a few weeks as to what i am doing.

Think Andrew has done a good job, But if i was sending out something that far knowing that there is no-one to repair if broken i would of atleast checked the box to make sure everything was in there, After the research you had done to get the right bike & now to contamplate selling it ITS A SHAME, Hope you give the bike atleast another go

About lack of tried and tested support. You also bought a bike that no one else had recommended except dealer! lol until after your decision, when our only member with one came forward...... If I was you I would have bought a wisper, a better bike, especially latest SEL, from Irish dealer, and gone and picked up myself a prepared and inspected working bike (complete with bell)

David i have a E Bike have done for nearly two years, soon be upgrading when i can make my mind up i have test ridden loads, recent one was the bosch system which was nice but not what i want i prefer the hub system gives more umph from start but thats just me, From what you have said & how you want to use it you might find the crank system more to your liking as they are lighter, & have very little drag when power is off & better on hills according to some. Did you not try all when you visited 50cc

I believe "sentence" has an "e" rather than an "a", as we are being pedantic today.

Nonetheless, I would council David 1949 to hang in there. Whilst an initial disappointment may have occurred, your supplier is doing all he can to remedy the situation, which is to be applauded. Even £150,000 Aston Martins have problems from time to time.

What would be a real disaster is if you gave up on E-Bikes forever, and missed out on the fun these bikes can provide. I am fortunate enough to have some seriously fun machinery to play with, however, the last few weekends, all I can think about is more E-Cycling.

Stick with it, and you will wonder how you managed without it before long.

OK i hold my hands up but when you look at the faults on the Wisper clinic on the this site it makes you think but yes you are right and i admit it. But the bike is bought now i have made a mistake and it is one i won,t be making again and if i had bought a Wisper i would not have went the 100 miles down to Dublin for a bike.
thanks, for your comments eddie

Eddio, I'm pretty sure I recommended the Oxygen Emate City as I have been nothing short of delighted with mine which I purchased 2nd hand (3 months old) in August '10. If I didn't it was remiss of me as I am always keen to give credit where due. But maybe I am just lucky, I did zero research apart from briefly trying a Kalkhoff, and just took to the Oxygen immediately after a short and v.wet test ride in Bristol last year. I'm now up to 2500 miles of trouble-free cycling and although I've never actually seen a Wisper in the flesh, all I can say is that if they're that much better than the Oxygen, they must be AMAZING.

It's usually related to how many there are David, there are a huge number of the very popular Wisper e-bikes on the road so fault reporting will be more obvious than with the many makes that sell only a fraction of the number.

eddieo, Do you have shares in Wisper? You seem to shout about them in every post. The OP's bike has gone wrong and they're sending him a new one. Is Wisper's support system better than that?

What kind of car do you drive? is it a VW/Audi?

I can assure all our bikes are never sent out unchecked. Every bike is checked twice at the factory before packaging and then with a dealer before shipped or handed to the customer. This morning Jim@50Cycles has confirmed this bike has been checked before shipping. Unfortunately in the workshop or factory conditions there is no way to spot a fault which shows up after a few miles of riding.

The thing happened, we admitted it's a faulty unit and with no discussion we replace the bike, simples. I just regret that David had unpleasant experience of power cutting off :(

all the best

I'm not knocking you oxygen think that your service is great, for 2 people to check the box & not notice is bad tho you must agree, But anyways lets hope David gets his bike & starts to enjoy it.

Surely he benefits from it, the fake product and brand endorsement just sucks from miles away. Sorry Eddie but it really does smell bad. I bet you Eddie didn't pay a penny for that DaaHub, did ya?

Hi Scatty,

I'm not saying you knock us, I just wanted to assure everyone that there is no bike leaving factory without QC. In David's case the bike would have to be ridden for a few miles first to spot the fault and even 10 people at QC wouldn't spot the fault. This is sadly something we can not do at the factory. Unfotunately even when checked bikes still have a long way to go via courier network where the cartoons with bikes get total disrespect by couriers and at high risk of getting damaged. You would be shocked to see how some of our bikes arrive. Had one recently with the fork lift puncting the cartoon and hitting the battery and the frame.

all the best

Andrew

We drive a Ford as we live in London and would rather spend the money on decent ebikes...far more enjoyable riding then driving (you listening Alex) No shares as A Wisper not a PLC and B I dont believe in them (anarco syndicalist:p)

I speak as I find, so its all right for dealers to pop up in every bloomin post on here promoting their product, but not for me a mere non commercial member to put in my twopence worth.....

My other bike was/and will be another Bosch powered bike, but I love wisper products particularly my DaaHub which is the best e bike we have had.

Alex what really sucks is your rudeness....
