it's been a long time since we enjoyed a bike ride together so today we set off. Arriving at the cycleway he said 'you go first so I don't leave you behind'. I was never able to keep up before.
You know where this is going........ after ten minutes I looked behind to see him pedalling furiously in the distance :)
When we stopped for a cuppa he said 'it's nice to stop and have a break but it's really hard to get going again isn't it?'

No dear, it isn't, not at all :D

I'll bet he's paying for all that effort today. The thing is ebikes bring enjoyment to cycling. Not just pain and gain. Just gain really.

I've noticed that most regular cyclists are 'head down and go', at their best speed and cadence. On a pedelec, you have time to smell the roses and enjoy the view and whatever else is going on around you. Stopping regularly doesn't cost you too much momentum, lost energies and efforts that you worked hard to gain in going forward. All their effort tends to be used in scouring the road ahead for the path of least resistance.

@Sarabee Your old man is probably frantically surfing for his next purchase right now. Probably a nice touring pedelec, so he can keep up with you. Or, maybe some deep heat rub ointment for his aches and pains. :D

Well, he had his day today on the cycle way as there was quite a lot of sand in the remoter sections so I took it fairly steadily having a pretty, old ladies' bike. When we got to the clear bit I soon caught up with his mountain bike.

Gaz, he is always chivalrous, bless him.

Leigh, lord he'd better get a pedelec, don't want to be massaging his aches and pains every day :)

In my 20s and 30s I used to bike all over the Peak District when I lived that way. I can see how easy it would be to get well and truly bitten by the pedelec bug. After reading all the posts I thought you were just a bunch of fanatical nutters, in the nicest possible way. I think when hub retires we might need better bikes :D

That's how it started for us, on holiday in Anglsea, with a Giant Twist and me on my hybrid non-e-bike. I'd bought the Giant for her so she could keep up and we could go out together.
The sight of my beloved leaving me behind, riding bolt upright on a dutch style bike, whilst giggling I might add, with me red faced and struggling to keep in sight, was just too much to bear. We came home and I bought my first kit!
Don't worry Sarah, he'll be along shortly - one way or another:rolleyes:
