In fact it's yet another of the unsupported political announcements that Boris is so fond of making. After being challenged, the Mayor has admitted this morning that he only has a third of the 1 billion needed within his own budget. The other two-thirds of a billion is needed to be given by central government, and I see little chance of that in the present economic circumstances.

More pie in the sky I'm afraid.

Remember, this is the mayor who was elected on a promise to cut council tax by cuts elsewhere, and the very first cut he ever made was to chop 20 millions off the annual cycling facilities budget for London.

Marvellous idea Boris, just so long as security of the machines is also considered . A relative has just had his £400 cycle pinched in Manchester , they cut the chain/lock . Boris is certainly ahead of the game .You land in your Airliner on Boris Island in the Thames Estuary , pass through Customs , get on your bike outside the Terminal and ride the Boris Cycle Expressway straight into London .

Its great to read about Boris putting up almost £1 billion to improve travel in London and how it will affect cyclists
I posted earlier in the thread that this was unfunded and probably just an empty political gesture, since most of the money would have to come from central government.

We now have the confirmation that this is just an empty political statement. It's now emerged that the government's transport funding for London will be cut when the departmental budgets are set later in the year, not increased by the two-thirds of a billion pounds that this scheme needed.

I hope one day that people will wake up to the reality that is Boris Johnson, someone who skilfully employs guile and a facade of harmless buffoonery to disguise his true dishonest nature. It's strange that most can so easily see the dishonesty in other politicians but are so easily fooled by this man.

At 9pm next Monday, 25th March, there will be a documentary study of the man on BBC2 titled "Boris Johnson, the Irresistible Rise". It will undoubtedly be as amusing and entertaining as anything in which he appears, but hopefully those watching will also see the underlying truths of who and what he really is.
