Falling off....

Jeez, that's alot of money for a jacket Darren...I've got a Nukeproof body armour suit that's used by many DH riders and it was £40 in the CRC sale! And same as Eddie, I've got Dainese knee/shin and elbow/forearm protectors with the Ti bash-plates too...a full face helmet is also handy (Bell Transfer here) to stop branches taking your face off and I top it off with a Dainese back protector that I use on my GSXR1K road bike if it's going to be an "all-out"
day:)
Yes, I agree it is quite a lot of money. And the ability to take some but not all on certain days not possible as it's all one fabrication. I'll take a look at Nukeproof. I just want something that I WILL actually use. Key elements being weight and bulk, if it's not comfy it'll likely get left at home.

Yeah, the Schwalbe tyres are a tw*t to get off the rim out on the trail if you puncture them...the Maxxis (kevlar bead) fall on and off the rim once you break the bead and the EXO sidewalls are mega-tough:cool:...and the HR2/Minion both go tubeless, even if you get the non TR versions;)
Any experience with Maxxis Shortys anyone? Considering one for the rear now the wet mud is starting to build up.

Scott compression vest for me. Elbow and shoulder pads only, not the thickest, but definitely better than nothing! POC mk2 knee pads, comfiest pair I could find.

I had not fallen off for a while, obviously getting complaisant, doing a downhill single track on the way to work a couple of weeks ago with a central gully full of leaves that I had strayed into and thought I would pop out of, however the leaves were camouflaging the severity of the lip out, almost made it, almost! My shoulder and knee took the hit but nothing too bad. I don't wear any protection but probably should. Broken toe clip tie and bent pannier clip given running repairs before carrying on. Got off lightly.

In all my years of cycling and motorcycling I've never once hurt myself. But I've hurt myself three times when out walking, the last time very recently.

I've often said I should have been born with wheels instead of legs!

It would have been safer going down the steps, in my case. Then I'd have been central to the slimy bridge and would have probably just sailed over it in a straight line. Or, that way, I could have just fell onto the bridge and not into the effin ditch beneath it.

As for the wellies. It's best to die with your boots on.

We all push boundaries. Surviving them for the thrills, demonstrating assumed skills.

When I resumed cycling after a forty year break I came across a big pile of sand where the kids had rode over. It looked fun so I charged at it, it may had been my extra weight but the front wheel went into the sand, the bike stopped but I didn't. I was so glad no one saw it happen.

As it's said, you never stop learning.
