Finding my (electric) wheels

I've just bought an Ezee Quando 2 and would like to convert it to throttle-only mode as per my Ezee Torq Mk1. There is a very small amount of power (bike will creep forward) supplied to the rear wheel if the throttle is opened without pedalling but obviously I need to pedal for any real assistance. Can anyone advise if this mod is possible as I don't want to have to pedal all the time.

thanks

I think you'll need to contact the UK importers, Onbike, about this Peter, to see if they can get an answer for you. The Quando 2 used to be exactly like the Torq 1 with a meter switch for the pedelec on or off function, but the new controllers seem to be different.

Thanks Flecc - OnBike think it may be a Euro spec bike and that the wiring may be different. They are unable to help due to their (at the moment) limited experience with Ezee bikes. The bike does not have the additional switch controller for switching from pedelec to ebike mode that the Torq 1 has. Seems like there's no quick fix. Is there any way I can fool the electronics into thinking that I am pedalling ?

Sorry for the delay Peter, I've only just seen your response. The European mainland models were indeed like that. I don't know fir certain of a way to fool the pedelec function, but disconnecting the pedelec sensor wires inside the controller may do the trick, it does on some controllers.

The wires are the ones that come from the sensor under the bottom bracket next to the magnet disc.

Thanks Flecc. Excuse my ignorance , but I assume the controller is the black box near the battery ? Will it be fairly straightforward to dismantle it and do I just cut the three wires ?
thanks

Yes, the controller is that box on the rear of the battery mounting slide. It's attached with screws to the slide so you could detach it and check inside to see if the wires could easily be disconnected, but it will probably be simpler to cut the wires in a way that they could easily be rejoined if necessary. Try cutting the wires only one at a time since just one could either do the trick or stop the bike working.

Obviously remove the battery before doing any cutting.

Hi Peter,

I've just done this successfully on a Quando II!

Disconnecting the pedal sensor didn't work, it required some delicate work removing heatshrink, breaking into the wiring near the bottom bracket and some careful soldering to repair a wire which had been cut short on the pedelec model. Then I also had to make a connection up at the battery indicator to complete the job.

You need to be confident you can carry out the snipping, soldering, re-assembly and re-heat shrinking without damaging the rest of the wiring.

If you want to go ahead let me know and I'll give you more details of exactly what to do.

Hope this helps!

The basic internal rectangle of the eZee battery case is 304 mm x 99 mm x 64 mm.

The uppermost 80 mm of the rectangle widens from that 99 mm to 109 mm.
