Ezee bike kit now available

I see that Renaissance Bikes in Canada is now selling an Ezee motor kit. First time I'd seen these available; price is reasonable at CDN$1250 including a (lithium) battery. The description seems light on detail - not clear if there are any performance options available, what speed the motor is geared for, UK/Euro legality - however I'm sure Renaissance could provide more details if required.

While I might have been tempted by this, I'd advise anyone to read the threads on here about the performance of the Ezee lithium battery before buying.

In fact Team Hybrid here in the UK had some Quando motor kits in stock a long time ago. That's the same as the Torq kit, only the wheel size being different.

If anyone is thinking of buying from Renaissance Bikes then I can wholeheartedly recommend them. Justin and Zev are really great people to deal with, they provide a great deal of technical support (their website alone is an absolute gold mine of information) and they ship very quickly.

Of course, you have to weigh up the pros and cons of buying from a dealer that's several thousand miles away and accurately determine what the real price will be, including shipping, handling charges, duty and VAT.

So far, I've found that the all-in price for the items I've bought has been significantly lower than buying the same items from a UK dealer. More importantly, Renaissance have always responded to any request far more quickly than any of the UK dealers I've made enquiries of.

They've included the Ezee hub motor on their simulator page, so you can get an idea of the performance. It certainly has a lot more torque compared to the crystalyte motors.

This is the motor that's fitted in the Torq Trekking, basically the original Quando/Torq motor set up for slightly higher torque and slightly lower gross power peak.

Top speed will be the same as the Torq in a 700c/28" wheel at 20 to 22 mph, in a 26" wheel at about 20 mph, and in a 20" wheel, the same as the Quando at 16 mph, all battery voltage/charge dependent and unlimited.

Might not be a bargain though. Currency conversion is £600, then with duties and VAT added, plus shipping, it could be close to or more than the complete Quando at £845, delivery free of charge. Buying that would only leave the disc brake missing.
