I can't blame te government, they are taking the least line of resistance. In Britain well over 90% of the public naturally want cars, and on the sales evidence, no more than 3% naturally want bicycles.

In London car drivers are stung £10 a day congestion charge, plus swingeing parking charges, circa £200 tow-away penalties, and drivers suffer the frustration of traffic jams. Meanwhile many cycling facilities have been added plus a decade of pro-cycling propaganda. Yet although cycling has doubled as a result, it's still very much a minority transport choice and mainly just used into the congestion charge area.

E-vehicles are very tough concept to sell, given their very high battery costs, range problems and charging inconvenience, so even in comparatively wealthy London, they haven't exactly taken off. Trying to do the double of converting the public to electric transport and to cycling at the same time is really like banging one's head against the wall.

People need to be cycling first for e-bikes to really take off, as long proven in mainland Europe where it's in the mass cycling countries that e-bikes do sell well.

Wish I could get £5,000 off the cost of a pedelec..

We (the guvment) will invest £200 million to extend the plug-in grant, which cut the up-front cost of an ultra-low emission vehicle by up to £5,000, making the choice to go green cheaper in the showroom as well as on the road.

It's always easy to forecast for 25 years ahead as they do with ZEVs.

I think there will still be vehicle dominance by Hybrids and even pure i.c in 2040, especially for goods transport where electric alternatives haven't even commenced.

I won't be around though!
