Hi everyone,

Looking to buy a commuter aprox 20 miles a day range, foldable to fit 193cm person weight about 90kg. Budget 1000-1500 pounds
Myself most interest in Volt metro electric but never tried one.

Any suggestions what to look for?

Thanks

I ride our Kudos Secret folder a lot,I am 100kg and 6ft tall. On even steep terrain I get 20 miles range. The Secret has a double height seat post, like the Brompton,to enable very tall riders, the handlebars also have height adjustment to suit.
It is also light at 18 kgs and now has a 52 tooth chainring to lower cadence considering the 20 " wheel diameter
Priced at £735.00 incl vat.

I'm 6 foot 5 and will be attempting this conversion with a used Montague: http://www.nycewheels.com/montague-crosstown-bionx-electric-bike.html#tabs using a Bafang CST 180mm rear motor and an 09-type bottle battery from Eclipse (Woosh sell them too). An Oxydrive kit would do it, any conversion kit really. I haven't figured out the wiring logistics yet. I think a Panda bikes XiongDa two speed kit would work although I don't know if it will leave enough rear room for a disk brake (the Montagues tend to use relatively weak c brakes so you need a disc brake really).

Note though that you're stuck with 25 or 28mm thin tyres because the rear bridge is welded so low (although it could be modified if you're feeling brave). It's also v wierd for me bending over on a mountain bike so I'll be changing it to a Dutch sit-up style.

FWIW practical bikes sell this cheap, strong, well made 400 mm quill stem:

I put one on a Raleigh twenty I installed a cheap set of bmx forks on - it provides enough height for the talllest person I know to sit entirely upright, which is what I prefer mostly too

My choice would have been a 26" wheel Dahon Cadenza XL with a front motor conversion kit, but sadly they seem to be no longer available:(

You would have to buy a Montague bike in the UK, new or used, and convert it to electric yourself, using a kit or appropriate parts which you had sourced yourself. There are ebike mechanics who would be able to convert it for you, it's normally £100.

I see the down side can't take off the battery to charge away.
How is about max speed anything to overide like up to 20mph

the woosh zephyr-B for tall people, big 8-Fun BPM motor, hydraulic brakes front and rear.
http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?zephyr-b
I feel like this is closest option. 26 inch wheels like it. Removable battery very good. Shock absorbers good to have for comfort. Hydraulic brakes do they need extra care? Any mods available to improve the bike? How well can fit to bag? Battery probably not possible to upgrade just thinking. Price tag very reasonable.

Spire, the battery can be charged away from the bike, the frame folds open to give access to the battery...I always find it convenient to charge the battery remote from the bike.
The 790 type display cannot be altered to allow a higher cutoff speed than 15.5 mph but if you want to go fast I think you really need a bigger wheeled bike, these 20" folders combined with our potholed roads are harsh coming out of a hole.
