My whole 'electric fixie' idea was started off by a vague memory I had of a Yamaha pacing bike developed for Keirin racing. I found a link this morning which gives a relatively full tech spec.

Since this was developed in 2001, I wonder what the range might be with the batteries that are available today?

Yamaha's PAS motor system wasn't very efficient Clarkey, and this type of in-line and bevel drive motor has largely disappeared from e-bikes due to the inherent inefficiency. They've been long discontinued and Yamaha now make a crank drive system almost identical to the Panasonic system that's used on many e-bikes.

That's not suitable for sporting use either, so they'd have to start again to achieve the same concept. Here's a pic of the PAS bike that the Keirin design was based on:
