because they are bombarding us with we need to install one now ect ect as my clock work meter is past it.

the date on my meter is 1985 which i take was the date it was made or installed and from what i can find has a service life of 40 years.

now is the wifi on these things in the meter and take it they use wireless data for coms as not using my fkn wifi.

now as this thing will be recording my usage every 30 mins under the gdpr can i refuse and still send them meter readings cos there taking the pi$$ as we have signed nothing!!!

I'm with Ebico, AFAIK smart meters are opt-in only. I'll never opt in.

"You don’t have to accept a smart meter if you don’t want one. If your supplier tells you that you must have one installed, contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline. "

I'm pretty certain you can't be forced to have it replaced with a "Smart" meter, Council house or private. Give CAB a call.

That article doesn't say anything about "Smart" meters, and they haven't and don't save households much anyway.

They don't use WiFi, our UK smart meter system uses the mobile phone network. I have an EDF smart meter but it's never worked as a smart meter simply because there's no mobile phone signal here. Anyway, left EDF very long ago.

No problem, where it's already in use such as Denmark it's popular since it reduces the household electricity bills.
