I completely agree, there will be problems until a directional noise is added.

The counter argument to this has always been the Rolls Royce, the most silent car there is and yet nobody has ever claimed they should be louder.

Quiet yes but you could still hear them coming.

Are electric cars really that quiet? There's a firm round here that uses Leafs for taxis and I have honestly been unable to tell much if any difference in the sound of them vs any modern small petrol-engined runabout as they pass me on the road. Most of the noise from either seems to come from the tyres on the road together with some wind noise. Perhaps at very low speeds they're a bit quieter but anything over 20mph and I'm not so sure.

I disagree with adding fake noise. They manage fine in Holland. The only thing we need to add is the entire Dutch transport system.
