Prolific E-Bike Phone Snatcher Arrested After High-Speed Chase Across London
A notorious phone snatcher riding an e-bike was arrested yesterday following a dramatic police pursuit spanning three London boroughs and both sides of the River Thames.

"The case highlights the increasing reliance on drones and helicopters to assist in urban policing operations, especially when suspects use high-speed bikes to flee through pedestrian-heavy areas and narrow streets."

I wonder if his battery went flat. They don't last long if you go flat out.

The perp's POV GoPro footage would have been brilliant viewing.

He really ought to have been more prepared - could have lost them with a folding bike on the underground, ninja smoke bombs and supernatural powers of invisibility, a train or two, furtive subway and park lurkings under a camouflage tarp, some taxi rides, a series of unmarked vans and a couple of buses etc. Allowed himself to be taken alive too. Amateurs.

Ooerr, Engwe is in the sights again. (Ireland)
Expect this is why their bikes are locked down now?
Now seems the two collided in the carriageway while crossing the road?

Arrest after bikes stolen at Baggeridge Country Park
"A group of men wearing balaclavas took three bikes from a group of young people.

A spokesperson for South Staffordshire Police said: "We understand they entered the park from St Michael’s Road and may have been in possession of knives, although no weapons have currently been found."

Good to see that at last there is some official recognition that the term e-bike and its variants should never be used.

I've argued this many times in here , only to be shouted down, explaining why there's no such thing as an e-bike, if we accept that the "e" refers to being electrically powered and "bike" refers to bicycle.

That is because our legal EAPCs are Electric Assist Pedal Cycles and NEVER electrically powered, since in law the power can only ever follow pedalling, however light. Therefore only assisting, never powering alone.

So any use of the term e-bike refers to an electric motor vehicle in law, such as an e-moped or e-motorcycle or e-scooter, never a bicycle.

Sad though that the article is still so wrong in many other ways, for example repeatedly stating that 250 watts is 25 kilowatts when it is in fact 0.25 kilowatts.

He shouldn't have been done for Careless *Driving* in the first place. "Furious Cycling" maybe?
Wish we had some cctv to peruse..
Count the frames/time against the distance between 2 lamposts and work out his speed.
Hours of fun, even put the A.I on it? :)

my lay understanding is that with a criminal conviction any civil suit for damages is a sure thing win.. even a jobless 17 yr old with plans to go bankrupt a few times wont find it easy to shake of a liability judgement?- But then again ive been spoon fed fairy tales of poetic justice by tv etc for decades without personal reasons to visit any courts.. ..

We don't know the facts. Maybe the guy was just innocently pedalling along, when the jogger jumped out in front of him. His 750w bike is legal in Ireland, and he's allowed to use the cycle path. They mentioned the bus stop, so it's possible the pedestrians were on the cycle path. so he went onto the footpath to avoid them, when the jogger jumped on through the gap to the side. have a look on street view to see what I mean.

".....The plea included acceptance the e-bike was a “vehicle” under the Road Traffic Act 1961, as amended, which makes it an offence to drive a vehicle in a careless or dangerous manner.".............
"Because Dunne was not insured to drive the e-vehicle, Leonard intends to join the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland, which compensates those injured by uninsured drivers, to a pending personal injuries action."
He will get damages from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau because its a e-vehicle and not an epac. Its up to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau to recoup the money from Dunne. .

Irish law but I watched for interest
This a misleading video as it fails to mention that, Irish Road Tracffic act "defines a mechanically propelled vehicle as one, inter alia, intended or adapted for propulsion by mechanical means, including a bicycle equipped with an auxiliary electric motor greater than 0.25kw."
This one was reported to have a 750W motor.
