Im currently looking at buying an ebike,

Im 5ft - 11inch - 16 stone

Commute is 20 miles round trip.

I have been looking at Tredz.co.uk due to the monthly payments options.

I prefer mountianbikes so i have been recently looking at the Cubes.

Budget would be 2000 pound max.

any suggestions on what model bike would be best and what size frame I would need,

Thanks in advance.

I'm 5'11 too. I got a Cube Reaction Hybrid Race 500 in a 19" frame, which has 29" wheels. It's fine on the road, with more road biased tyres, and is capable of a bit of off road too.

Go and try some, see how they feel.

Better forks (air rather than coil), 11 speed rather than 10, and there were a couple of other things that I forget... Tyre size too I think, but not sure. The forks were the main thing that swayed me. I got it for 2k with some persuasion!

ETA, that was the 2018 model, 2019 may be different?

I'm sure there'll be someone along shortly with more knowledge than me, but if your commute is not too hilly, you may want to consider the active line plus motor instead of the CX as there is less resistance.

03murreayj,

First of all, there is no need to spend £2k. How about saving £1200 instead (see below)?

Hub drive, hydraulic brakes and a high gear (to prevent spinning out or pedalling air when attempting to travel fast on the flat) led me to choose an Oxygen MTB which I use exclusively on the road (in a hilly area) with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres (to minimise the risk of punctures):

http://www.oxygenbicycles.com/e-bikes/s-cross-mtb

Add a comfortable saddle and an SR SUNTOUR Sp12-NCX Seat Post to combat the effects of poorly surfaced UK roads:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/SR-SUNTOUR-Sp12-Ncx-Seat-Posts/dp/B00BXPMJBY?th=1&psc=1

NB The seat post from Oxygen has an OD of 28.6mm whereas the NCX is 27.2mm, so you will need a shim converter:
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/seat-posts/286-cane-creek-272-mm-seat-post-shim/

I also added these bars to give a bit more lift (35mm):
https://www.amazon.co.uk/UPANBIKE-Cycling-Mountain-Bicycle-Handlebar/dp/B01HTJYGOK

Also have a look at post #4 on here:
https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/convert-existing-bike-or-buy-a-new-cube.33767/

The 83.7 mile Oxygen MTB has been relisted here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273695926464?ViewItem=&item=273695926464

I have no connection whatsoever with the seller, but in my opinion this is an absolute steal compared to the new price!

PS By the way, I am also 5 ft 11 inches and I started at 16 stones, a relatively short while ago.
I have since lost 1.5 stones thanks to cycling and above all, a diet which minimises carbohydrate, sugar and (I am sorry to say) alcohol.
It really works, believe me, so good luck!
