87.4 miles average a day for ten days is unrealistic for most e bikers, 41.63 miles average over 21 days would be doable but then it would get very expensive.

In the end, I would have to agree with Soundwave, that the joy of e biking is exploring and enjoying your ride and once you have your bike, that's not too expensive.
If you had 3 batteries (2 spare) and rode on full assist power, I think 90 miles a day at an average 13-14mph woukd be 7 hours in the saddle is not too bad and with a relatively normal level of fitness is easily doable. Set off by 7am every day, plenty of breaks along the way, in the b&b by 5pm, batteries on charge, good nights sleep. 10 or 11 day trip (plus a day each end getting to start, or back home)

I'm your man who can drive your support van ! Did it 6 years ago when my son did LEJoG, non-stop, (other than 6 hrs necessary sleep stops), in a total of 98 hrs.
The thought of doing the trip myself has been in my mind ever since I got into the e-bikes, and accommodation to me would just be a roof over my head, be that light weight tent, youth hostel, glamping pod etc.
Having had my bike pinched recently, that has ironically left me with a spare 500 bosch powerpack, and the plan to replace the e-MTB with an e-tourer only makes the plan a bit more realistic, albeit with some less adventurous slightly shorter trips first, C to C would be a good one for me from my location.
Would agree that the CX motor might be a little less suitable than the ALP, as I found the pedelling through syrup feel of the CX once at 15 mph quite annoying, and in comparison the ease at which this is done on the ALP would only help over longer distances, it's ALOT quieter too. Will have to see how the 42t on the rear cassette copes with the bigger hills, something the e-MTB's 46t +CX had no problem at all with, out of the way Hardknott ! Mind you I did climb the Alpe d'Huez last year on one of the French moustache e-bikes, and that was the ALP motor, in 36t rear gear, and sport/tour mode.

I'd agree with that sort of itinerary, lots of short, get off the bike, breaks during the day. Use all of the days hours available, no turning up at your stop in the mid afternoon, plan to use the hours available, unless you are on a 3 week trip, but to do the ride as a bit of a challange, keep the ride time as short as possible, whilst remaining pleasurable. Batteries on by 1900hr will see them charged by morning, even better if you have a 4 amp fast charger.

I'd agree.

85 miles a day for 10 days (in all weathers as well) is really pushing it unless you are already relatively fit.

Perhaps one or more of the coast to coast routes on ebikes would be a better option?

A lot more people would find it do-able as well. And it would take maybe 3-4 days?

But of course there is competition for that sort of holiday:

Looks like 4 people doing a 4 day 'supported' C2C with electric bikes is £500 each.

Just gonna chime in with my 2 cents!

Just read through the thread, was hoping all the best for the guy and his venture having run my own businesses in the past (successful and not so successful) I hoped the guy all the luck in the world.
Then poof went from great new idea to dead and buried within a couple of weeks. Something went really wrong really quick!

On the whole LeJog route, It's a long ass way even assisted for the average holiday seeker.
Forgive me but its a very niche market catering mainly for serious cyclists. I think it would have been stuck catering solely to people that would have happily ridden that route when they were 10-15 years younger/fitter and had very little to offer an average go for a bike ride at the weekend type of person. If i got that right... It was an average 84mi per day hike and £1,500 per head. Like someone said, a cycling holiday is generally looked at as a cheap holiday.

I wouldn't spend £1500 on a holiday abroad let alone spend £1500 to be regimented and hump my guts out for the next fortnight solid to be left for another fortnight dragging my knuckles around at work trying to recover and get feeling back in my ass.
But then i don't have a sedentary job sat at a desk in an office complaining i'm cold when it's 24c, i have a very physically active job so i just want to chill out 90% of the time!

For a much wider range of clientele, perhaps a more localised excursion may have been a more viable way to go?
Lake district, Yorkshire dales, Peak district, Cairngorms, Norfolk, Dartmoor etc. All of which have a large number of breathtaking rest stops throughout the day, lots of B&Bs that could be brought on-side and multiple routes catering from novice to expert rider, with dynamic routes that could be amended on the fly depending on feedback from the holidayers previous days ride. All within a nice fixed radius from a support vehicle point of view.
Less emphasis on get to the next bed and more stop and take in the surroundings throughout the day!

But hey hindsight's always 20/20 right?
Like i say, just my 2 cents... But i'm not a die hard cyclist so there will be plenty of bones to pick at there, everyone has their own thoughts.
But if it's a business venture it doesn't matter if the singular 'you' think it's a good idea, its ultimately what the customers think along with having enough of them to turn a profit!
From experience, 60% of people that say they 'would' translates to about 10% that actually 'will'

Really sorry that it didn't work out for you fella, but if you still have equipment in storage may give you a "one last try" idea!

To chip in with my input re the LEJOG idea. I am a 68 year old with mild angina. I bought my e-bike (Raleigh Motus Grand Tour) over a year ago and completed a fundraising ride for the Midlands Air Ambulance charity between their bases last August (2018). From the Strensham base to the Cosford base and then on to Tatenhill base. In all I completed about 140 miles in two days, without a spare battery! I found that riding at a relatively leisurely pace averaging 7.5 to 10 miles per hour was fine. Most of the time I had the setting on ECO, I used TOUR for moderate hills and only resorted to SPORT or TURBO rarely. My point is that the long tours are in my opinion feasible with one spare battery. I set out the route myself using BikeMap Cycling Route Planner and stuck mainly to the National Cycleways. If anyone is interested in assisting me to organise a LEJOG route over 15 to 20 days I am quite willing to help build the trip and arrange (with others) the support vehicle and accommodation etc. I would expect to keep the cost down to a minimum but believe it could be within the £1500 to £2000 break even mark. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

personally My backside couldn’t cope with so many miles in such short a time, about 3hr every other day is more than enough for me ;)

They could just change the site or go to a large Internet platform)) Or they simply made an application and work in a mobile format ..

Still hoping to do LEJOG by ebike one day, maybe 2022. It's one of those niggling thoughts that just won't go away lol
