After many years of them being illegal though widely used in the City of New York, e-bikes with the usual USA 20 mph assist will finally be permitted soon. But once again, no throttles allowed:

I was in NY last year and I saw how fast the delivery guys went on their e-bikes. Nobody seemed to care, or at least that was my impression.

The problem was that it was down to individual police officers, so occasionally one included an e-biker into their force's zero tolerance policy on petty offences.

Fortunately they'll soon not be able to pick on an e-biker. The other states of the USA really need to be sorted too, their laws on e-bikes are a terrible hotch potch and often very restrictive.
