The lollipop on the passing side works well for the most part, but this driver tonight overtook too close on a blind bend. My camera is rubbish at night. The car was moving too fast to get a clear recording of the number plate

I had similar last night, coming up to a junction (fortunately l was turning left) and a car came flying round on my side of the road, he didn't change course when he saw me so it's a good job l was over to the left.

Around peak pub crawling and closing time is the most dangerous!

What you have to remember is, how close would he have got if you didn't have the lollipop?
I agree. Close passing has much reduced, or isn't as close. Should I glue two lollipops together? It's the drunk and tipsy ones, and taxi and delivery drivers. At night especially, drivers who accelerate to anticipate, beat or not notice trafic lights are very concerning, happens far more often than during the day.

You need the sharp metal piece ton your lollipop (sounds really unusual!!) to mark his paintwork!

A Driver in Bridgend has been moaning all the week about a very hefty fine after passing too close to a Cyclist in his Audi SUV . I think it totalled £4500 . He refused to discuss it with the Police and attend a Course and then didn`t turn up at Court . I have noticed that most Drivers are giving me a much wider berth these days , some excepted of course . Perhaps they have noticed this case ?

The problem with some drivers is they think the 1.5m clearance is between the driver centre and the cyclist centre, not between the inner edge of the car (tip of the wing mirror) and the outer edge of the cyclist.

Seriously, I'm thinking about dangling one of these from the passing side of my long aluminium rear reflectors, on the passing side. Surely male drivers wouldn't hurt my balls, and female drivers will be repelled? It's "Heart" shaped on the Amazon listing lol.

Nobody should be allowed to drive a car unless they passed a driving course, where they're taught how to overtake bicycles safely.

Not that I've seen. I don't think many can read!

Most drivers are fine, but you've got the ones who think cyclists "shouldn't be on the road" and blow past them in their big cars as if they own the road.
I had one beep at me last night because I was in his way on a narrow lane. I wasn't using the middle of the lane. After the road widened and he overtook, I beeped him back! It's good having a loud beeper. Azzole driver.

He'd had to have passed closer. Have any vehicles hit your lollipop?

No, and not even close. They wait till there is no opposing traffic.....
Maybe because I usually have a big dog with me (Weimaraner), but on the pathway side of course.
I do tend when on roads, to ride on wide ones, that may help....

Aren't you in in Germany Andy? Are the drivers much better there towards cyclists?

@I893469365902345609348566

You're not having much luck riding at night. Maybe stop doing it.
I wish I could but:

1. The sun keeps going down.

2. My workplace is in a really awkward location for public transport. Before I got the ebike, it took 2 hous to get there in the morning and 4 hours to get back. It's in between two counties, so I had to use a train and two bus company passes for two counties catching five buses. And there is still a space in between where nobody seems to operate buses, and that's exactly where I work. I don't drive.
