I asked the original question.. and I was completely confused by page 2, and then I gave up following the post. So in light of your comment Col,
This place is going to end up with just 3 or 4 of you trolling each other because none of the thousands of genuine eBike customers around the UK now riding their eBikes will come on here more than once.
.. I tend to agree:(

Always good to have an industry guru's view...

Not to mention the thousands of people’s problems that are sorted by the "trolls" that regularly take the time and trouble to post ...

Oh, you didn't mention that, did you?

flattered to have that title thanks :)

of course, yes, I'm sure there are a good number of people who have their problems sorted, but all to often the actual answer gets lost in a load of incorrect nonsense.

very true - for reference it's a90kg bloke and about 10 to 15 kg pannier (so pretty hefty) - i found the comparison of gear ratios very helpful for comparing teh TCM and impulse 2 (it makes teh 70nm torque versus 60 for teh TCM sound more or less spot on - but that only means somewhat slower climbing of teh same steep hill, not that its a no-go). but even that doesnt tell the whoel story - a derestricted tcm will do 19mph all day on moderate terrain, teh impulse 2 as far as i know cant be derestricted
Once your weight approaches 100kg, you need a high-torque motor for its power and durability. The Woosh's TCM can get you up hills in first gear, but it's a bit slow. The point I was trying to make rather clumsily is that some people on the forum are much lighter than us, so when they recommend something that's good for them, it might not be so good for us. It works the other way round too. If a 70kg rider tries a Woosh Big Bear, they'd say "moped", but for us, it's barely enough.

I forgot to mention that you can increase the current of the TCM a bit, which helps with hill-climbing and higher cruising speed, though I guess most wouldn't want to do that with their brand new Woosh bikes.

I wouldn't dream of breaking the law or invalidating my warranty,so I of course have not derestricted my new Santana, but if I had I would have said that a strong argument for ebikes is safety, spending 20 minutes at 20mph on a fast local road without hard shoulder is statistically a lot safer than lolling about between speeding trucks for 30 minutes. Weight is a surprisingly huge factor, a 10kg pannier changes everything on a hill for me,I suspect 100kg is some kind of boundary in ebike design
