March 17, 201412 yr Going to get a bike soon and I'm thinking about insuring it. I've come across the following site which gives a high level comparison of policies. http://www.money.co.uk/bicycle-insurance/electric-bicycle-insurance.htm Do you insure your bike? If so I'd like to know your experience and whether you think it's worthwhile.
March 17, 201412 yr I have 2 bikes and both are insured on my home policy. It's worth checking with them for details. In my case I had to declare it's value if over £500 and make sure it is always padlocked to something.
March 17, 201412 yr Likewise, mine is on the house policy, this being the cheapest option declared at replacement value. A "Sold Secure Gold" D-lock & a cable through Q/Rfront wheel & expensive seatpost.
March 17, 201412 yr Mine is on the house policy - another £30 a year! I contacted several on line insurers who seemed baffled and uncertain as to whether they would cover an ebike. "I'll have to check with my managers" was a typical response, so I gave up and went to the house insurer.

March 17, 201412 yr House policy for me as well. Strictly, the bike should be 'tethered', and there's a £2K limit. The insurance company weren't interested in the type of bike, so it's really them making a £30 bet with me they won't have to pay out on lump of metal. It's never certain they would pay in the event of a claim, and my two bikes would cost about £4.5K to replace. But I tend to think it's unlikely both will be stolen, and if I could get approaching £2K for either in the event of loss of one of them, I would be happy enough.
March 17, 201412 yr I suppose each company is different so it pays to check your cover. Last year my phone got wet and my home insurance replaced it within days, but with a £100 excess is all. The only test of an insurance policy is when you make a claim!
