Hi Mike,
I can't comment directly on the Woosh CD but from my limited experience:
I am not particularily bothered about the throttle, I anticipate pedalling all the time, albeit gently.
Me too. I get bored if I don't pedal.
...does it matter that I don't anticipate riding many hills ?
No.
....can I ride it with just enough effort so there is no pressure on my knees as I do now on my current bike ?
You can use as much or as little effort as you like.
....will I easily get used to the intricities of the crank drive ?....remember I've never ridden a CD.
I actually find CDs far more intuitive than hubs as they work through your gears making it more like riding a regular bike.

So why do you want assistance upto 15.5mph then? Surely your legs can do that too?
If you rode where I do, living at 700' on a 1000' ridge, you wouldn't need to ask such a smartarse question....HILLS...

I use assistance on them so that I can still enjoy 30-40 mile rides that generally encompass sea-level at some point.

20mph on the flat is not a problem.

Ok, so you ride around with your motor switched off untill you come to a hill then you switch it on, tackle the hill and then swith it off again. Good for you... I guess...
