Do 2nd hand ebikes sell for sensible money? (ebay etc)

Since buying my Cube SUV a couple of months ago, I love being on the ebike, but am considering trading upto a full suspension model, and doing far more of the harder trails.

The Cube is fantastic on the easy trails, but im wanting to do a bit more downhill, at speed...

I realise im going to lose a chunk from a 2k bike, but how much am I going to end up losing to actually sell it?
Not really studied fleabay yet, any ideas?

Or would a Cube / KTM dealer be a better bet for part exchange?

Thanks - Geoff.

I suggested a formula some while ago which took into account the high proportion of the battery cost and this has been used by many members.

It mainly deals with two year battery life, so with your high quality batteried bike it would be better to increase that adjustment to four years.

Here's the link

You lose about 30% the moment you wheel it out of the showroom. After that it depends if your bike still has the latest developments on it. The older type Bosch batteries and motors are not so desirable as the latest ones. Assuming that yours is the latest, I would guess about £1500 unless somebody nearby is looking for exactly that bike, then you might be able to get a bit more as long as it's in good condition and low miles.

Ebay will cost you about £90 or more if you allow Paypal. Free sites like Facebook, Gumtree and this one are probably a good place to start. Ebay would probably be the quickest. The dealer for your new bike would probably allow a trade-in, but it takes away your bargaining power on the price of a new one. It would be interesting to know what they offer you.

Formulas, don't take into accounts lots of things.

1) Some brands are currently putting bikes into every single dealer around the UK and giving them massive credit terms. This means dealers are fighting over customers and most are willing to sell bikes at big discounts to get customers. This means the RRP isn't really relevant in many chases.

Luckily with Cube and KTM you won't find this happening because neither of us can keep up with demand, let alone attempt to saturate the market for our bikes.

2) With eBay and the like you only need 2 people who want your bike in your size for the bidding to put the price up very high.

For instance I'm aware of a 2014 KTM eBike that sold on eBay recently for under 10% less than the retail price of a new 2015 one!!!

So if you're selling a Cube I think you'll be ok, compared to many other brands.

Thanks!
I would be well happy with 1400-1500, so that's a relief. I was thinking it would be more like 1k or even less....

Will have a more serious think about a replacement before I sell, I wanted a KTM last time (to match my 690 Enduro) but the Cube had the disk brakes compared to the rim brakes of the similar model KTM.
Will re-look at the KTM offerings this time :)

Cheers - Geoff.

Fears of a knackered battery kill the value of older ebikes.

At least you can truthfully say the battery on yours is as new.

You can also say your internet chum RobF told you Bosch batteries have a longer service life than many other makes.

Why not try a suntour suspension seat post for around £50 before you finally decide, if you otherwise like your bike it may just be enough, if not you could easily sell the seat post.

fears altogether would do it for me: straight after i got an oxydrive kit teh electrics went up in smoke in a way that would - had i bought it second hand - done around £200 damage - oxydrive replaced it all under warranty - if one is a newbie one has a morbid fear of that happening often, ctastrophically, i'd rather have backup.
