Fair enough. I have no objection to them, as yet don't need one myself. I still haven't got over the bionic legs sensation of the torque sensor! Makes me smile every time I ride it.

It is already legal and you don't need a certificate for that. 6km/h is the limit if I remember well. Should be more than enough to start.
This new bike ought to be called "BOUNDER! OIK! CAD! NO!!!!" or something. Perhaps they can ramble around it without being spattered too heavily with great clods of mud and fox shiz.
I'm wondering if such high power from such a small motor is made possible by DJI's mystery special sauce high discharge rate lightweight batteries, and if so, whether owners will be disappointed with lower power from their motor, if they manage somehow to hack heavier generic batteries to use with it in a year or three, after their first set of expensive batteries are properly shagged out.

A throttle cannot be essential, our "safety" bicycles have managed without one for some 140 years.
The fundamental of an assisted bicycle in law is that it must remain a bicycle to be free of motor vehicle law. And bicycle motion is only by pedalling.
That is the rationale behind the ban on throttles for EAPCs.
But if you want an imitation motorcycle at low speeds of choice, then "single vehicle approval" is available through a test station privately or via Wisper. After that the machine is classified as a motor vehicle, thus satisfying the letter of the law in Great Britain, while not the spirit of the law.

Guys, I’m aware of the law and its nuances.* Not sure why this thread has got side tracked when my only interest is to respond to the OP with support for another mid-motor brand provided it has a throttle option.
I’m also uncomfortable about the power and speed of the DJI as presented in the video link, if only because I think it might attract unwanted attention. I’m sure that can be toned down but if there is no throttle option (and nobody has confirmed whether there is or not) then personally I think that’s a big opportunity missed. For me, a throttle is essential.
I have two hub-motor e-bikes, both with throttles and plenty of power, and both perfectly legal. I’m very happy with them.

Probably not that many other companies that could come in as disruptors with a product like that, if current versions don't have throttle be assured other models will have. With the rep for customer services and global service centres they have and fact that you can buy spares and have a right to repair albeit at mid dollar costs, probably you cannot go wrong, their drone pedigree is unmatched, only now being eroded at lower end by likes of Potensic and the superb Atom 4K that rivals DJI mini 2/3/4 for way less bucks.

I like the idea that he was doing range comparisons rather than a range test, but why did he carry on after the controller cut the power right down when the battery was low. He did another two climbs with very little assistance and ended up gasping for breath from his effort pedalling, then claimed that as part of the range of the bike just because the LCD was still switched on. What could have been good ended up nonsense.
The DJI is an interesting motor, it is entering a very competitive market
