I have managed to find one of these avid BB7 08 disc brakes at swinnerton cycles and it is winging its way to me.:)

However it was the last one they had in stock but if any one is after one there may be other on line shops that still have one knocking around - probably worth phoning before going through the account set up rigmarole.
Presumably this brake is going to replaced with a super-duper new model, (perhaps an Avid BB7 09???).

Does anyone know when this might be available, or what the model number will be?

Regards,

Elephants

Bum! Having happily taken my order on Monday, Cycle Sports UK have just sent me an email saying they've removed the disc brake from my order because they haven't actually got any!!!

Thats customer service for you!!!

Elephants
Same with me - I guess we were all just a bit too late.
They reckon they'll have the new ones - the 2009 version - in 'in a couple of weeks' but I opted for a refund as I've heard that one before!

Just in case anyone still after these Avid BB7 disc brakes for a wisper and were only looking for the MTB version which appear to be sold out / discontinued.

Mine turned up the other day in a BB7 Road Front Disk box. Also it had Road stamped on the caliper but when I checked with the cycle shop they said the MTB and Road were one and the same and it would fit. Well it did and works very well.

Avid Bb7 09

Hey Guys,

I've just ordered an 2009 version of the BB7 from descent-gear.com.
Heard the dealer over the phone checking with the manufacturer that they were in stock. Should be here by friday:cool:

I can also confirm that the BB7 Road Front Disk is easy to fit, works a treat and is very very simple to set up and adjust.

The only niggle is the travel distance of the existing brake lever isn't really big enough to get the best results from the brake, but I know that Dave/Doug are sourcing some different brake levers soon which should improve things.

So a big thumbs up to the AVID BB7, and a bit of a boo hiss to the Promax DSK400.

Dave/Doug, I reckon you should seriously consider ditching the DSK400 and fitting the BB7 as standard :).

I received my pair of Avid BB7 2009 disc brakes this morning from UK Bike Store which I can highly recommend - good packaging and very reasonable next working day courier delivery. They're slightly cheaper (£38) than the 2008 version (£40) and are described as graphite grey although they look black to me.

They are no longer sold as front or rear specific versions, instead each one is a native post mount and comes with both a front and rear IS bracket. I've only fitted one so far because the braking power is not too good when first fitted, I'm assuming there is a slight wear in period which I'm hoping is not very long.

I can also confirm for any others that own the same bike as me that these are 100% compatible with the Galileo and they exactly match the colour scheme of the bike - good bonus!

Having said that these are 100% compatible with the Galileo, I thought I'd better set the record straight.

The rear brake is 100% compatible but the front brake has a slightly non-standard rotor fitting - each screw is a few millimetres further out from the hub than the BB7 fixing holes. The brake itself fits fine, so the options are, don't bother with the front brake, fit the BB7 but use the existing rotor (it's a standard 160mm diameter and seems to work fine with the BB7 as long as you add a 1mm washer between the front fork disc brake tabs and the IS bracket itself - the thin washer on the stock front brake is perfect), or use the existing front brake as a template to drill the correct holes. Fortunately I have access to a bench drill at work so I'm going for the latter.

No, not easily. It would need mountings to be in place on the frame.
In the same way you can't easily put v-brakes on the front as it doesn't have mounts for them.
